When pregnancy will start to show?

Hello!

I was wondering when pregnancy will start to show?

On dec 8th, I had my 2 years old female surgically inseminated with the semen of my best male taken 6 years ago and kept at the fertilization clinic in liquid nitrogen?

Last time I had a litter of puppies was over 15 years ago and I forgot when the first signs start to show.

The Vet told me there was a 80% chance the procedure will be successful but I am starting to worry. It is going on its 4 th weeks now and still no obvious signs.

Shouldn't you know this stuff before you get your bitch pregnant?

Not that it matters at this point and I know that the answers will probaly make me sad but...
Does your bitch (and did the sire) have any health tests done?
--no, not a vet check but health tests
Were the two of them titled in some sort of venue?
Are you hoping to accomplish anything with this breeding other than getting puppies?
Do they come from healthy, tested, and proven lines?

Please have good answers, please prove my thoughts about this whole thing wrong.

Many breeders do an ultrasound at 28 - 30 days so they know if the bitch is pregnant and can therefore care for her properly during her pregnancy.

Thank you for the valuable information. Tomorrow will be the 4 th week since the insemination. She still does not show signs of filling up other than having gained weight since I have been giving her more generous food portions. She seems to have some beginning of lumps, but it is more likely the extra food or/and me wishing to see lumps...

I did notice her vulva did not yet come back to her regular "out of season" size. It is between normal and full heat size...Like Doberboy said. So I guess this is a good sign.

So, the next 2 weeks shall give a better idea. She is still not showing any sign of clear slime after urination like Darkevs suggested.

Welcome to the forum.

Why not introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your dogs?

Do you plan to do an ultrasound, then?

Who's the cute little fella in your avatar?

First off... I TOTALLY NEED that sign!! "never mind Doberman, beware of owner!!!". That's awesome!

Your bitch is from working euro lines, whats the pedigree? Does she compete in any venue?

Same with the boy (sorry for your loss, 14.5 is wonderful though) did he compete? What German lines?

Hello! Yes I did all the necessary tests on both of my dogs before deciding to have puppies. The following tests had been done; Hips, heart, VDW, Thyroid. Every test was normal.

As for the lineage, My female's Sire is: Go-Gu Royal-Bell and the Dam is Tahi-Reme Fibie. Much info is available at this link: Bodyguard Eda - working-dog.eu

For my male, his Sire was; Amadeus Sultan de Rouville. The Grand-Sire was CH Charlot Cyr Dagobert (USA), Dobequest:Dog Profile Page
The Grand-Dam was Richelieu Sophie Galilee.

His Dam was; Fraulein Hilton De Montdobe. The grand Sire was BB Spartacus, Dobequest:Dog Profile Page
He was a descendant of Ali Von Langenhorst a great champion Ali von Langenhorst - Von Forell | Dobermanns
The grand-Dam was; Kim de Montdobe Dobequest:Dog Profile Page

This is a little succinct but I think it is enough to show the parents have good European working stock in their blood that is worth preserving.

Hello! It is my belief that any responsible Doberman breeder should strive to preserve the Doberman Standard.

Dobermans were first bred as a watch and guard dog. As such temperament, drive, stamina and intelligence are of first importance for a working breed. Health is primordial for me. In the 1950's most of the current Doberman diseases( heart problem, Wobblers, WDV) were practically unknown in the breed. The normal life expectancy for a Doberman was between 13 and 15 years. Now the normal life expectancy of a Doberman of American/Canadian lineage is about 8 years.

I will not open the Pandora's box of talking about the good and the bad of European lineage over American/Canadian lineage. That topic is dynamite... But the facts are there nevertheless. This is why I, for one, will continu to bring more European blood in my lineage.

Breeding for that kind of longevity is awesome, good for you! I would have given a fortune to keep my baby with me that long. I always thought the 10 year old LC thing was strange and wondered if maybe there was some failure within the breed to pursue longevity (seeing as dobes are a medium sized dog) in an effort to pursue other desirable traits. To have multiple dogs in a lineage living to 13 and 14 years old cannot be anything but good, IMO

I realize you've been out of breeding for a while, but was wondering if you have a kennel name? You're in Sherbrooke? That's less than 3 hours from me. Sounds like an interesting litter & wonderful longevity on your male.

Well....I am not sure anymore. At this point, I think I am starting to see things that are not there....

Like tonight when I put her on the treadmill for her exercises, since we are having a snow storm. I could see with the light in the room that it seemed to have a sign of a bulge on her belley. Then when I touch it I could not feel anything.

Today I find that website : Debbie Jensen Pregnancy Calender. at Canine Pregnancy Calendar

I entered the date of the insemination (dec 8th). The calender is telling that by jan 11th (yesterday) the belly should START to get larger. So I guess my odds are still good.:nicejob:

Hello! Well it does not seems to have anything cooking in the oven....Unless she only have 1 puppy.:(

The reproductive specialist do not understand why it did not work. She ask me to go to my vet 1 week before she would normally be due and have a Xray done to make sure there is no puppy. I have such an appointment for next Monday. And send her a copy of all her exams results.

I guess I better start putting money beside for the next trial (June or July). At $1300 a shot, if next trial do not work either I will have her breed the natural way with a male of good European lineage and save the remaining frozen semen for one of her daughter in a couple of years

A friend of mine with Akitas was down to one bitch to carry her line forward, after many generations and many years. She tried once, twice, three times... she consulted all sorts of specialists, she tried supplements and anything she could think of. She tried one more time, and then publically said on the day she should have had puppies that she was done... her line was done... it was awful! That night, her bitch hopped up on the couch, turned around, got a funny look on her face, and (still standing!) dropped a single lovely puppy bitch on the couch! I will think positive thoughts in your direction...

There is a lot of old frozen semen waiting to swim around in the land of Aus....you'd be able to hear the cries of despair and devastation all the way over there in the US without a phone if they had a short shelf life.
