Thank you for the valuable information. Tomorrow will be the 4 th week since the insemination. She still does not show signs of filling up other than having gained weight since I have been giving her more generous food portions. She seems to have some beginning of lumps, but it is more likely the extra food or/and me wishing to see lumps...

I did notice her vulva did not yet come back to her regular "out of season" size. It is between normal and full heat size...Like Doberboy said. So I guess this is a good sign.

So, the next 2 weeks shall give a better idea. She is still not showing any sign of clear slime after urination like Darkevs suggested.

Welcome to the forum.

Why not introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your dogs?

Do you plan to do an ultrasound, then?

Who's the cute little fella in your avatar?

Thank you,

Well, it would be very lengthy to tell everything so I will keep it short. I had Dobermans non stop since 1986. My current girl is now 2 years old and she is from European champion lineage (Germany). She is from a working dogs lineage, not a show dog.

The little fella's name is Miquette. She is a dog I rescued from a dog shelter. She is part shihz Tzu and part Boston Terrier. The dobe you see in part in my avatar is or was Dino. At the time of the picture he was over 13 years old. He is the one who supplied the semen to be frozen for future use.

He is no more. He died at 14.5 years old. He was gorgeous with great forms, character and with the most stamina I have ever seen in the 9 Doberman I owned since 1986.

His mother (my 3 rd Dobe) was also 100 % From German working champion lineage. His dad (my 2nd Dobe) was the son of a great show dog that won many Canadian championships in the late 80's. The breeder had kept him to replace her champion, but sudden illness forced her to retire. Since we were good friends and she knew how well I was taking care of my dogs (she sold me my 1 st Dobe). She decided to let us have him.

He was born in 1996. It was a litter of 6 puppies. Now, you have to understand, I am very, very protective of my dogs. I am thinking of replacing the "beware of dog" on my door by a sign saying; "never mind the Doberman...Beware of owner".

I had over 40 people who wanted to buy one of my puppy. I had a 13 pages questionnaire people had to complete in order for me to evaluate them. Out of the 40 people who wanted to buy one of the puppy and who did put the cash on the table (back then, the average price of a purebred dog was $800), only 3 met with my requirements. I rejected all the others. At the end I decided to keep the 3 remaining puppies so I would be sure they would have a good life. I am afraid I only got fussier with the passing years...

Sorry for the long post...

No I do not think I will have an ultrasound done on my female. She hates going to the vet...I just will have to wait and I have already ask for the time off for the time she is suppose to deliver...

Shouldn't you know this stuff before you get your bitch pregnant?

Not that it matters at this point and I know that the answers will probaly make me sad but...
Does your bitch (and did the sire) have any health tests done?
--no, not a vet check but health tests
Were the two of them titled in some sort of venue?
Are you hoping to accomplish anything with this breeding other than getting puppies?
Do they come from healthy, tested, and proven lines?

Please have good answers, please prove my thoughts about this whole thing wrong.

First off... I TOTALLY NEED that sign!! "never mind Doberman, beware of owner!!!". That's awesome!

Your bitch is from working euro lines, whats the pedigree? Does she compete in any venue?

Same with the boy (sorry for your loss, 14.5 is wonderful though) did he compete? What German lines?

Hello! Yes I did all the necessary tests on both of my dogs before deciding to have puppies. The following tests had been done; Hips, heart, VDW, Thyroid. Every test was normal.

As for the lineage, My female's Sire is: Go-Gu Royal-Bell and the Dam is Tahi-Reme Fibie. Much info is available at this link: Bodyguard Eda - working-dog.eu

For my male, his Sire was; Amadeus Sultan de Rouville. The Grand-Sire was CH Charlot Cyr Dagobert (USA), Dobequest:Dog Profile Page
The Grand-Dam was Richelieu Sophie Galilee.

His Dam was; Fraulein Hilton De Montdobe. The grand Sire was BB Spartacus, Dobequest:Dog Profile Page
He was a descendant of Ali Von Langenhorst a great champion Ali von Langenhorst - Von Forell | Dobermanns
The grand-Dam was; Kim de Montdobe Dobequest:Dog Profile Page

This is a little succinct but I think it is enough to show the parents have good European working stock in their blood that is worth preserving.

Hello! It is my belief that any responsible Doberman breeder should strive to preserve the Doberman Standard.

Dobermans were first bred as a watch and guard dog. As such temperament, drive, stamina and intelligence are of first importance for a working breed. Health is primordial for me. In the 1950's most of the current Doberman diseases( heart problem, Wobblers, WDV) were practically unknown in the breed. The normal life expectancy for a Doberman was between 13 and 15 years. Now the normal life expectancy of a Doberman of American/Canadian lineage is about 8 years.

I will not open the Pandora's box of talking about the good and the bad of European lineage over American/Canadian lineage. That topic is dynamite... But the facts are there nevertheless. This is why I, for one, will continu to bring more European blood in my lineage.

If I didn't have two Dobermans I would be very very very happy to get one of the expected puppies.
Dino lived 14.5 years. That's a great longevity for a Doberman these days!
Fraulein thanks for saving his semens and good luck with your girl :nicejob:

Breeding for that kind of longevity is awesome, good for you! I would have given a fortune to keep my baby with me that long. I always thought the 10 year old LC thing was strange and wondered if maybe there was some failure within the breed to pursue longevity (seeing as dobes are a medium sized dog) in an effort to pursue other desirable traits. To have multiple dogs in a lineage living to 13 and 14 years old cannot be anything but good, IMO

I realize you've been out of breeding for a while, but was wondering if you have a kennel name? You're in Sherbrooke? That's less than 3 hours from me. Sounds like an interesting litter & wonderful longevity on your male.

Hey, thanks for coming back with an intro :)

Sorry I'm late seeing this, haven't been on the forum much lately, and just hitting threads randomly here and there, so I missed this.

I'm a bad wait-er and hate suspense, so I'd personally have that U/S done, plus I'd know how many (more or less) to expect when she does whelp.

That's just me, though.

I read your other post, good to see folks health screening, and I'll send vibes your girl delivers safely and Mama and pups are all healthy. Good luck to you.

So...anymore signs that your girl is pregnant?
Well....I am not sure anymore. At this point, I think I am starting to see things that are not there....

Like tonight when I put her on the treadmill for her exercises, since we are having a snow storm. I could see with the light in the room that it seemed to have a sign of a bulge on her belley. Then when I touch it I could not feel anything.

Today I find that website : Debbie Jensen Pregnancy Calender. at Canine Pregnancy Calendar

I entered the date of the insemination (dec 8th). The calender is telling that by jan 11th (yesterday) the belly should START to get larger. So I guess my odds are still good.:nicejob:

One more week and I think you will know for sure and then she will get big in a hurry!

My pups are due on Valentine's Day, and the girl is"barely" starting to show right now.
29 days pregnant. I've been doing belly checks every day, finally, *something*! :)
(Excuse the lousy excuse for a 'stack' she was staring at the toy and my assistant kept squeaking it at the wrong time! :p )

Hello! Well it does not seems to have anything cooking in the oven....Unless she only have 1 puppy.:(

The reproductive specialist do not understand why it did not work. She ask me to go to my vet 1 week before she would normally be due and have a Xray done to make sure there is no puppy. I have such an appointment for next Monday. And send her a copy of all her exams results.

I guess I better start putting money beside for the next trial (June or July). At $1300 a shot, if next trial do not work either I will have her breed the natural way with a male of good European lineage and save the remaining frozen semen for one of her daughter in a couple of years
