Parkers' registered name is Sunburg's Riverpark or River Park v Promise, I can't remember right now if it is one word or two. I ran several reg names past his breeder and said I liked the call name of Parker to go with Riverp/Park. It is a play on his dads' name of Riverwalk, call name of Walker.
She agreed to the name.
I liked it as I thought it was unique and hadn't heard of anyone using that name.

Pitou is a hugely popular name in Quebec; all pets are Pitou! :) :)

well let's see

Duncan came with his name. His registered name was Ser Duncan Sweeney which I absolutely hated. Sweeney being his old owners last name.

However I loved the name Duncan as I love Celtic names. So he stayed Duncan and I couldn't imagine him being called anything else.

I socialized a puppy for a breeder for a few months and her registered name was Caryola's Candle In The Wind. The theme being Elton John Songs.

Well the breeder was sort of calling her Flame...yuk not to mention she didn't respond to it at all. So I asked if I could rename her. Since that song is about Marilyn Monroe; I thought that was fitting so she became Norma Jean (Marilyn's real name). The moment I first said her name she jumped up and came to me. She was always Norma Jean from then on; when we were being cute she was Norma Jean Castleberry...LOL Unfortunately when she went to her forever home they renamed her. So one day I'll use that name again.

Boca's registered name is Holmrun's Bo Coup and her breeder was calling her coup. Well she didn't respond to that and responded more when I said Bo. Well her sire's name is Beau so that was out. One day just sitting at my desk Boca popped into my head; I said it to her and she responded so there you have it Boca.

After calling her Boca I came to find out it meant mouth in spanish. Appropriate for a puppy although she's not mouthy at all...LOL

We named our boy Boris because it's German and as stated above, it's easy with training. His registered name is Boris der Wachsame, which means Boris the watchful one. Since he's been a pup he watches everything going on around him, then thinks about it...

The German Shorthair who passed away last winter at almost age 16 was Otis (the Mr. watched a lot of Andy Griffith ;)), or registered as Otis Jagdmeister (Otis the huntmaster).

We also have a Sheltie that we brought into our home when my Mom passed away who is now called Dodie. My Mom had named her Jodie, but the parrot couldn't say that, so he quickly named her Dodie and it's stuck ever since. :)

Lucan's registered name is Ravallese's Supernatural (he's from the "S" litter and since he was the only one to keep his ears, I thought it was fitting).
I wanted to name him Luca but my daughter thought it sounded too feminine so we added the "n".

Well my kids were hooked on Scoobydoo when I brought Velma home - if she had been a red, she would have been Daphne. Her registerd name is Dillon's Barclay Amy............ and Amy just did not fit her at all, so I basically ignored her registered name. I like old fashioned names and so I liked Velma a lot also.

When we got our next puppy, it was just a given that she would be Louise, because everyone always thinks that Velma's name is Thelma........... and for those of you who remember the movie Thelma and Louise.......... it was just too good to pass up :) I would someday love to get a picture of the two of them sitting in the front seat of a rag top Thunderbird!

My first Doberman was Gertrude, and my rescued Greyhound was Marlowe. I like those old fashoned names - actually found a website with the most popular names from the 1920's

Hi all, new here, still looking for a Doberman. So, ill tell you bout my last dog. Im 16, my cousins aunt calls me and says her dogs just had a litter (7) and to come and get one, actually she already has one picked out for me, his name is wrong way, because he came out the wrong way! I get there and they are all in the laundry room gated in. One of them gets a running start and jumps the gate and into my arms. I look at her and say sorry, but I want this one. She says thats wrong way. After a while we get on our way, the whole ride home Im trying to brainstorm on a name, we just cant leave it as wrong way. Half way home I pull into a place to grab a drink. My dog comes up front, puts his paws on my leg, looks me right in the eyes, and barfs into my lap... I tilt my head back as to think, why me, and and stores sign is staring me square in the face..."lil' champ". Fine Champ it is :)

unique names

We have a pretty unique name for our boy, Malakie, named after the God of storms or thunder. My husband had the name picked out before we even got him. People ask us if he was named from the Bible or from the movie Children of the corn, which the name is also used.Does any one have any suggestions for a formal name we can use to register.

I have liked the names of my dogs....Merlin, Kenyon, Devon, Clifford (the big red boy!), Volta, Vista, Rex (rescue already named) but we call him "Wex"...and Cheers.

Rex's ILP is Rescue Rex CD...hopefully CDX in the spring of 2008.

Roman got his name from our honeymoon in Rome, we thought of Romulus or Remus but they didn't work for us. Plus I didn't want people to think I was a Trekie :)

Whenever i tell people his name they think I'm saying Romeo though...lol

Sherman was named after the tank, because we knew he would be a big boy. Navarre was named after the protagonist in one of my favorite movies, Ladyhawke. When we get a female, one day, her name will be Isabeau, after the other protagonist in the same movie, played be Michelle Pfeiffer. :)
One of my first rats was named Isabeau :) I love that movie - just watched it a few weeks ago again... might have to pull it out this weekend too!

Great names guys!!! Naming an animal is soooo hard...

and BiB, I always said it z-ear-us in my head, so now I have to totally change her name in my mind...

Normandy because he was born On June 6th, the anniversary of D-day. His B-day also happens to be 6/6/6, which is somewhat creepy, but I'm not superstitious. The only reason D-day happened on the day it did, was because of a break in the worst storm the french coast had seen in many years. Normans dad was "Perfect Storm". So I went with Normandy, as a tribute to all the brave people we lost that day. Friends and I just call him Norman though, or doberham lincoln, do-boy, Norm Chomsky, as well as a host of other names.

I chose Fausta (Fow-sta) for a couple of reasons :) I wanted to name her something different. I learned to speak German over the last few years, and "Faust" means fist, so if you picture someone holding up their hand clinched in a fist, it would indicate strong or bold. I added an "a" at the end to make it more lady like :). Most people think it's the strangest dog name they have ever heard, but I really like it. You dont hear anyone else calling their dog Fausta ;) Most of the time I call her Punkie...short for pumpkin. Either that or Lovebug :)

I just wanted two names that both started with the same letter and I had just come back from DisneyWorld with my grandsons and loved Sebastian from "The Little Mermaid". Sydney just sort of fell in place.

I love this thread. My Kira was named for the little gelfling girl who gave her life to save the world from darkness in The Dark Crystal. Her registered name was Cara's Shining Dark Crystal. My male Boston Terrier is Hemi and his registered name is CH Tuff Stuff's Revved Up N Ready. He is the little engine that can and the name REALLY fits him perfectly.

I have been keeping a list of names for both males and females and have pretty much decided on one for my puppy but want to meet her first. Since I am not getting a male, I will share a name I have saved>Turbo Charged ~ Cruise. I also like Rolex and Hawk but have not made up registered names yet.

I wanted to name Fiddler "Jax." However, the breeder insisted that his nickname be a version of his registered name. The theme was musicals, and so his registered name is TKC Fiddler on the Roof. I call him Fiddler of Fid for short. I now LOVE his name and am glad that I didn't name him Jax.

I spent a lot of time coming up with names for our puppy. The breeder gave her the registered name GoldGrove Obsessorize. She called her "Risa" for short. (Everybody thinks it's like Lisa - Risa... But is is a short 'i'... Like Rissa.) Anyways, I liked this name better then all the others that I had been considering. The spelling was unique, so I kept it...

The next dog that I get (male or female) will be called Pitou (P-2) - I like the sound of it for a call name .......it is not a very common name here or abroad from what I can see. )
Actually "pitou" is french for dog or doggy. The real translation of dog in french is "chien" but "pitou" is sort of like "doggy". More commonly used for puppies ;)

So if you're ever in my neighborhood (Montreal Quebec) and someone sees your dog and calls out "hey pitou !" don't wonder how they found out his name :) :)
