Apollo and Molly came with their names and they were old enough when we got them not to change them - especially Pollo. Molly fit her tho - especially when we call her Mad Eye Molly (after Mad eye Moddy in Harry Potter books) I'll post a pic tonight, with her skull fracture and her ear pulling one eye back, she gets a crazy-a$$ look when she is really focusing.

my first dobe was Cody, after the town in Wyoming. I am thinking about Blitz for my next doberboy's name.

my most recent favorite dog name was one my neice came up with, she got a chocolate lab and named him Chip - as in chocolate chip. I think it's perfect.

"Chocolate Chip" is adorable :) My next dobe, will be named Brownie. :)

I have a Wonder.
There are a few people here that I know I had a Wonder, who passed away last August. His registered name was Glengate's What If CD, CGC. I thought his call name and his registered name went together pretty well, as in wondering what if ...

His sister was Wish - Can. Ch. Glengate's Wishful Thinking CD, CGC. Personally, I thought Wish was a beautiful name. Obviously, I was in a pretty wistful state of mind when naming them. I thought they were cute names together for a brother and a sister.

One of my new puppies is named Royal. I think it's fairly unique. Although as soon as I chose it, another breeder informed me about 2 siblings she knew way back when named Royal and Regal - I think she said they belonged to the Ringstroms.

One of the puppies in my new litter was named Rockit by her owner because in her opinion, she "rocks it". LOL

Some of my dogs have had fairly unique names and some have been entirely mundane. My first dogs was call named Marc (Mars was part of his registered name) and for no particularly good reason if he was being particularly good he got called Marcus Aurelius (Roman philosopher).

The dogs I have now all had registered names from their breeder and she call named them before I had a change (I think she was afraid I'd do what I'd done to another breeder friend--I was growing up a puppy who I called Cat--it gave her nightmares so all of them came with call names as well.

Ch Foxfire's Shoot The Moon CD OA AJX RA CGC ROM is Colt to me and his friends. Ch Foxfire's Ain't That The Truth CD NA NAJ RE CGC ROM is Rumor and the Toad, my fawn guy is Foxfire's Gold Toed Monster RN--his registered name is a play on the name of a pretty well known fawn dog bred by Kygur kennels--Ch Kygur's Gold Toed Dragon. I figure I've probably got the ONLY Doberman ever call named the Toad.

My first Doberman was Mercury, after Freddie Mercury of Queen. HIS song was "Best Friend" by Queen which was so fitting. His nickname was even more unusual, Weeder. All of his friends and family called him Weeder or Weederhund.
Aubrey is my girl, even though the name seems more common in the masculine. It means "rules with elf like grace". I've seen a couple of different meanings actually, but this was supposed to link in with her registered name Lothlorien's Stars of EverEve. Lothlorien is obviously Tolkien, but all of the cool names had been used by the breeder. Stars of EverEve was in the poem Galadriel's Song in the Silmarillion.
Lita's registered name has the word Elite in it.. that's how I got Lita. Reggie may be a common person name, but Reggie just looks like a big, 'ol red dawg. He just struck me as Reggie, which has no link to his registered name. My last PH girl, Saya (pronounced sigh-uh) is from an Anime cartoon.. husband picked that one out, as he is a Japanophile. Her registered name is Mia's Mystery Science Theater 3000. So, I call her Sci-Fi as a nickname.

Jada's registered name is:

Veedoc Brykris Love Blue Moon

Veedoc and Brykris are the kennel names - The breeder wanted to do an astrology theme and Jada's mom is Blue and at the time my husband's favorite beer was Blue Moon so there you have it. :)

PS - My husband loves Jada more than the original Blue Moon. :)

Bowie's name just came to me when I saw him in the shelter - I knew immediately that his name had to be Bowie, after my favorite star of the 70's-80's. He was ILP'd as Bowie's Modern Love, RN CGC - seemed fitting to pick a Bowie song to be his registered name, though I couldn't decide between that and Bowie's Space Oddity for awhile ;)

Mya was a hound mix, and came to me with the name Celine, which was HORRIBLE. Mya immediately stuck, and it made sense to find a Mya song to be her "fancy" name (she did not live long enough to LP her with the UKC, and she was never healthy enough to compete) - but her name was Bowie's My Love is Like Whoa!

Willow was hospiced/adopted from DRU and came with her name at 9 years old. She answered to it, and was already shell shocked when I got her, and she barely reacted to anything but her name, so I kept it. Her fancy name became Bowie's Shake Your Love.

Rah also came from DRU, and for the big blue life of the party, he needed a huge ACTION name. As my brother was a marine, the dobe was the original devil dog for the corp, Rah's name was perfect for him.
Bowie's Semper Fidelis v DRU, RN WAC TT CGC - call name is OohRah, but I shorten it to Rah.

Tyler came from a shelter on Long island and was called Handsome. I was calling him Jones originally, but he was so desolate and hated it. One night, I was watching tv and the name tyler was said and he just lit up - clearly it was his name before me, so that is his name. He loves it and responded to it immediately. He is ILPd Bowie's Fight Club (for Tyler Durden)

Berlin's name was hard to come up with - she had multiple names that didn't fit her. I had a few registered names I loved too, but none were perfect. She kept responding to B names, but I would be damned if my dogs name was going to be Buttercup! I kept being drawn to Bombs Away, from the Breaking Benjamin song "Skin"... and then I was watching the foot network special on foods of germany, and they mentioned Berlin - and it fit her perfectly :) So she is Beja's Bombs Away v Bowie --- whole lotta B's :)

So those are my dogs I've personally owned - Bowie, Mya, Willow, Rah, Tyler, and Berlin.

Well I picked Valley of Jasmine call name Jasmine. Although Jasmine is not a very pretty plant....I really liked the name. I heard it at the grocery store to be honest. It just stuck with me since I am a horticulturist. :)

I have one unique name :) Ziris. Z was from the "Z" litter, so Naturally her name starts with Z. Iris was Elly's dobermans name who passed away shortly before Ziris was born. "Iris Lindsey" was from the same breeder that Ziris is from.

So......Z + Iris = Ziris!
do you say ziris like iris with a z in front, or like z-ear-us?

not so sure it's unique but Tucker earned his name
We found him at an "inner city" pound and fell in love instantly
Since we got him the day before Thanksgiving we got to spend a lot of time with him trying to figure out a name -
Tango cause of the tap dancing he does?
Smiley for the grinning?
there were a few others but we didn't find the right one till Jeff said something about the dog tucking himself in my armpit
That was all she wrote - Tucker stuck and it fits him perfectly!
All our dogs have been like that-
Gilbert - shepherd hybrid that was Gilbert Godfrey in a fur coat I swear
Bumper - Beagle/Pointer that would make his presence known by bumping into you with his head
Dude - 110# yellow lab that could have stunt doubled for Spicoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Pistachio - Beagle mix who was just like the pistachio's you see on Grandmom's table at the holidays - there's no way you're walking past without grabbing some! And he was a bit of a nut...

those are just a few we've shared our lives with

We got our first doberman 7 years ago and we wanted to name him something strong. His name is Major. We never registered him so he has no registered name, but we got his name from my mom's first boxer back in the 50's. I thought Major was an awesome name for such a nobel breed!
Our other Doberman's name is Ace...we are trying to decide on a registered name..I like Ace's Are Wild....My hubby like Ace Of Hearts....not sure which we will pick...lol..

Poseidon's not a dobe (obviously), but I think his name is pretty unique. We can't take any credit for it though, as the rescue named him. I have no clue what his former lowlife "owner" named him, and I don't care. Since he was beating my boy to try to turn him into a big mean guard dog, I sincerely doubt it was a very suitable name anyways.

There's a pug that comes into the Petsmart I work at pretty regularly. His name is French Fry. How freakin cute is that?

Java got her name for her color and because my hubby's a computer tech guy. Wanted something mono-syllabic for when I needed to call her. Some have asked if her name is 'Jaba' - she gets very insulted. Do our Dobergirls resemble Jaba the Hutt? I think not!! lol

Have heard some great names for the boys like Breaker, Bullet.

Friend's collie was named Pitou - it's the fr-canadian equivalent of 'Spot' I think.

My current red rescue girl we named Ember. Why? She's red and full of fire so seemed more fitting than Jenny (which was what she was being called in rescue).

My next male pup will be called Strider (from Lord of the Rings).

Sherman was named after the tank, because we knew he would be a big boy. Navarre was named after the protagonist in one of my favorite movies, Ladyhawke. When we get a female, one day, her name will be Isabeau, after the other protagonist in the same movie, played be Michelle Pfeiffer. :)

The next dog that I get (male or female) will be called Pitou (P-2) - I like the sound of it for a call name .......it is not a very common name here or abroad from what I can see.
It was the name of the dog in French learning materials we had in school. You know in English, you have Dick and Jane and Spot. Well, they had the same in French - Henri, Marie-Claire and Pitou.

Yes Charles I know where you got Navarre's name and a great name it is for a noble doberman. I too love that movie and Rutger Howard's character. I especially like his Friesian horse, Goliath. Isabeau is also a beautiful name from that movie. Leo McKern has a nice role in the movie as well as Father Imperious (the monk)...
