Hair growth post staphylococcus outbreak?

Hello! My dobie recently had a staph outbreak on his skin, little scabby spots all over under his hair. After a vet visit, couple medicated shampoos and sprays, the scabbing fell off and now he has a bunch of small but noticeable bald spots all over his cost. I had him with a dog sitter for 10 days and I saw that the spots looks healed now. How long will it take for the hair to grow back in these places? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tabasco (and owner)

Most pups we've had, have had some staph infections, at one time or another. Always minor and quick to abate. because we were proactive and started treating them as soon as we noticed it. The hair has always grown back. When and how fast a dogs hair grows back after falling out, whether missing from a wound, pulled off by tape or shaved off (like for surgery), seems to depend on the hair growing cycle they are in. In other words the hair doesn't seem to grow consistently like it does on a humans head or a man's face. At least that has been by observation.

So... I can't give you a time frame, but I certainly wouldn't give it a second thought.

Yeah Tongues.... Me too Mel. You would love Popeye. I'm going to start calling him Gene Simmons.

Depends on where he is on the normal shed and grow cycle. Spots fill in quickly if they occurred in the spring or fall when dogs (even Dobes who shed a little year around) but outside of those cyclic times it takes about 2 to 4 weeks to see the beginning of new hair and between roughly a month to four months for the hair to grow out to the length of the rest of the coat.

In my experience this means about 2 weeks after realizing that every staph spot has resulted in a small hairless spot you forget about it because you've found something else wrong with his coat, his chin, a paw etc--and the next time you think about it you can't find any bald spots any more..

Yeah--I like that long tongue shot too--if he could roll it laterally he could pass for an anteater.
