Ive spent quite a bit of time perusing the forum and have seen a lot about who not to get a pup from in TX (Giles), but not too many suggestions about who really is a reputable and conscientious breeder. I don't plan on getting a dobe for a while, but would like to get as much of this part of the decision making process out of the way as I can so i can get on a waiting list of some sort if necessary. So i guess if somebody has had good experience with someone in or around central texas, any input/advice would be appreciated.
These are just a few that Ive found that don't seem like puppy mills:
Garrett's Dobermans Puppy Site
Rancho Lago Champion Doberman Pinchers
Chez D Dobermans - Home

There are other breeders listed on dpca.org, but without websites. If anyone has any experience with them an evaluation would be greatly appreciated.

Boy are you mistaken on some of these. Comparing Brimor and Giles is way off base. Brimor (Judy Brown) hasn't bred a litter in a couple of years. She is an AKC judge. She has bred lots of champions in the past. Her "partner" which is an x-partner now cause Deb Johnson went off on her own and is now Tropix Dobermans, has bred alot of really nice dogs over the last several years and some have the Brimor kennel name.
Giles is a puppy mill.
Garrett's is a pet breeder who does NO health testing and knows nothing about pedigree's. Chez D and By Design show their dogs and have decent dogs. I'll have to look up Rancho lago. I've never heard of them. Any others in TExas you want to know about please ask. I lived there for many years and know alot of them.

Looked up Rancho Lago, I don't know her at all. I recognize some dogs in the pedigree's but have never heard of this kennel or person.

Well, my thoughts are that since she had a litter in the recent past, she might not have one for a while (I will however, check, when the time comes.) I thank you for the suggestion, and will definitely check w/ her as the time approaches (hopefully soon). jdd, any input/advice you have would be appreciated as well. I would simply like the most healthy, receptive/good natured, and forgive my saying but mean/"protective" looking dobe i can find. I truly am sorry for the mistake of my first post, I got Brimor and Britton mixed up. My priorities are in the order listed. I have had a dog my whole life, and the main reason I am investigating possible breeders is that, the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning and training myself was a Lab that I saved and worked for when I was a youngster. He is now 8 approaching 9, and I would like to be able to socialize my next dog with him simply because of how well mannered, easy-going, and agreeable he is (role-model?). Anyway, I love my current dog and would like any personality traits he is capable of passing on to carry over.

Good for you for doing homework... Nikki might be able to help you if you are willing to show your dog.... and by help I mean place one of her puppies with you... she is a great resource however and will probably be able to tell you who has litters coming up. I am in TX and I started calling people on the DCPA list and they all pointed me in the right direction... good luck!! You will find a pup!

Hello:

We met Nikki at a Reliant show in 2005 and we were currently showing Bullmastifs. Our girl is now 7 yrs old and we really appreciated the stock that Nikki had at the show. She is such a sweet woman. I saw on a posting that you have a puppy from one of her litters. Do you know if she is still breeding? Any extra information would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to call or email me. Thanks again for your time.

Regards,

Does anyone know anything about Green Acres Dobermans (Home Page) in the Dallas, TX area?

They were recommended by a friend who says they are good breeders and they do not "look" like a pup mill or kennel. I just thought I would ask before I made contact. Thanks for any replies.

Green Acres Dobermans

I just visited their web site - Interesting - First they have 4 Dobermans because it takes 4 to make a pack to keep out coyotes - then the girl ISA that they picture at the bottom was kept because they could not find the "right" home for her - then realized that the right home was right there.

Does not sound like planning and breeding with a purpose. No health testing listed, and personally with no titles I find it hard to take "training for agility" seriously. I know several wanta be breeders who are always "going" to do something and have not even checked out what is required when you talk to them, but hey it sounds good on a web site.

Well, I don't see any titles or even any attempts, at that. Though the one bitch does say she is training for agility. I see no health testing, which doesn't mean they don't do it, but you should ask. I don't see any pedigrees, which are an important thing to see. You need to e-mail the breeder and ask a lot of questions, these just being a few of many. It's your money, you deserve the most for it. I personally would not buy a dog from them even if you paid me, but, that's JMO.

As a side note, some of their puppies were almost completely lacking rust markings and I didn't find that at all attractive but that's just me.

Yup! She just bred on of her Champion girls Rita... ( a very very sweet Red girl) who had me cracking up...

Nikki's dogs have NO issue about not eating up their food... I guess since they're not "only children" ... and so Wyatt would take so long I woudl put him up to eat. Well in protest Miss Rita would take her empty food bowl and smash it clanging loudly in protest of being done already knowing Wyatt had a full bowl he was messing around with. The girl has personality to boot!

I did my homework as well and have great dogs from Leilani Doibermans. Ken and Karen are in Terrell which is just east of Dallas. The have a litter that is 11 weeks old and ready to go. I was there the other day playing with the puppies and they are so lively and busy. They have blacks and reds only.
Good luck and keep doing your research; especially on health and temperament. Karen will let you meet the parents, grandparents, etc.

Rhapsody Dobermans in Austin (I think) has a litter of 7 born on Valentine's Day. I don't know much more than that, but others may chime in on Irina.
