7 Month Old is Destroying her Bed

So in the 4 months I have had her she has gone through two bed, the most recent one today. Both times I think it related to her having way to much energy to be in her crate, so I take responsibility for that. However I am looking for a bed that is a bit more durable. I understand that if she wants to destroy it she will, but I would love to get one that is not so fragile. Possibly a canvas like material. Any suggestions or any beds that you guys know of?

I can only use a Primo Pad in Richter's crate.

I use Primo Pads too, however I have had 3 shredded. Even with the zip ties to secure the pad in if they can get their paws under it and shred the vinyl it's done for. It depends on the dog.
I have Kurandas in 2 crates and primo pads in 3.

I second the primo pad.

We also have a kuranda bed but it's kept outside of the crate. It doesn't fit any crate exact and there is a gap. My boy got his foot stuck between the bed and the crate about 10 months old. He started SCREAMING at the top of his lungs at 4am. I thought something was attacking him. It was horrifying! Took the kuranda out and bought a primo pad the next day.

Very common Doberman issue. My current youngest went through all of our old beds. When buying a new bed I went with an Orvis chew proof bed. Guaranteed chew proof. It took McCoy less than 12 hours to rip out the zipper and get to the batting. Being Orvis, they gave an immediate and full refund.

Fortunately, he generally leaves his crate bedding alone. Although he does "suckle" it. Today at 16 months he is much better. However he will still go at it every once in a while.

The Costco large round bed actually lasted a few months in my house, just recently chewed on one portion so we replaced it with a Kuranda bed which has worked really well. I also have a baby mattress that I bought at toys R Us for about $150 that I covered with a fitted sheet and blankets. Both my dogs absolutely love it.

I withheld bedding when she was shredding/peeing on it. She got bedding back when she didn't make messes, and eventually just had a couple of towels because those were the only things she didn't chew or shred. Now she's graduated to a nice fluffy kong bed. In the car, I have a huge memory foam pad that I got at the grocery store for $20. She really seems to like it. But she's also never shredded bedding in the car...

My bed destroyer has a primo pad, it does well except that she likes to have something soft. So we cover the primo pad with old sheets, she rips them up in a couple days, I think she tries to burrow in them. But since they are cheap and she doesn't eat them, it works for us.

For travel, we use heavy double sided fleece. She doesn't destroy things when she is with us, only when crated at home alone. I think the fleece we get is like this, but we get ours from a local dane breeder:https://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_ID=4460&ParentCat=5

I want to put in a good word for K9 Ballistics Tuff Crate Pads:
Crate & Kennel Beds by K9 Ballistics

They have a 90 day guarantee and will replace cover if chewed through within that period. We have gone through a myriad of dog crate bed brands and combinations over last 5 years. When we adopted Eva (a.k.a. "The Shredder") in 2012 the challenge was on to find a bed she wouldn't de-stuff and destroy. (the Doberman battle cry?) She even took out a Syntec Bite suit bed ($99) from Ray Allen.

Our current solution is the Kuranda Crate bed, as recommended by other DT members already. Atop that we now have the K9 Ballistics Tuff Crate Pads for both Spock & Eva. Spock loves his pad and never moves it around crate as he used to do with previous pads. Eva still moves hers some, but I think it's because she's frustrated with how tough they are! We have had both Tuff Crate Pads since early Nov 15 with no damage :)

My boyfriend has heavy duty canvas beds and Gretchen can still chew those up. Primo pads are the only thing she hasn't chewed but she also doesn't really like them. I still buy her beds, she still chews them (not as bad as she used too, she mostly just sucks on them). If she's not chewing on a bed then she's licking/chewing on her feet or legs. I much prefer replacing a bed every 6mo. then her chewing on herself. She doesn't swallow it so I'm not too worried about her chewing. Just my opinion.

Kuranda! We bought 2 in the fall. however , if you live in Canada you may have to remortgage your home .
Claire the senior has a big duvet on top of hers as I want her off the floor and the couch is too high. Zack has a blankie on his which he often drags around but he hasn't even attempted to chew the bed.

I agree with the posts above me. Just curious, does she get a lot of exercise? Play toys? Being a puppy she has tons of energy to burn off and lots of exercise helps. Also if she has toys and you catch her in the act, redirect her to the toys and give her give lots of praise. There is an old saying, a good dog is a tired dog.

Yeah I usually walk her to the dog park for a few hours at least every other day, if not every day in the summer. Plenty of toys and she does pretty well with them. Does not chew up stuff in the house. I have a lot of plants and shoes out and she leaves them alone.

Yeah I agree, she does way better when tired and like I said in the first post, I take responsibility since it had been a few days since we went to the dog park.

Right now I just threw a towel over the holes she tore in the bed, but I am still looking for a heavy duty cover/bed. The two ones you guys mentioned is not very portable... which may mean I get two bed.

All the dogs i have ever had like to tear up their beds, which got expensive so i turned to Goodwill. I would buy blankets (sleeping bags, quilts...etc) instead and put them in the crate. The dogs loved them! They could curl up and get comfy to their own level, drag them out of the crate to sleep on them but they never tore the blakets up like they did with beds.

Just an idea.
Good luck:)

Both Spock (above) and Eva ("The Shredder"), who are crated at night on their K-9 Ballistics Tuff Crate Pads (atop Kuranda crate beds) have not chewed or torn either!
First such success with any product.
