Thanks for sharing!!! My puppy has NO agression issues, We're doing just fine thanks anyway.
Chloe wasnt aggresive either.... until she hit maturity at 2 years old. I look back now and the suttle signs were there, they always were, but didnt become evident till she was about 2. All I am saying is if the parents at 8 MONTHS old had bad temperment and were so aggressive you couldnt view them then dont fool yourself into thinking your pup wont have issues in the future. 8 months is just a puppy, puppies should not be that aggressive.

No, the RESPONSIBLE thing would be to spay/neuter, if im not breeding I wouldnt even give my puppy the chance to come into heat let alone have an unplanned pregnancy. Puppies can come into heat as early as 4 months, thats why vets recomend 4-6 months as the best time, large or small. Every dog ive had spayed early lived long, happy, healthy lives, So once again thanks but no thanks, im good.
And once again you need to do some research. Most here advocate 18 - 24 months IF the dog is in a responsible home. But thats ok you know everything anyways, and you a first time Dobe owner certainly know more than a community of long time fanciers.

I'm out, this person is just trolling at this point, they don't want to learn........

When MY dogs are outside, they are attended. Are you saying that you just toss your dog out in an unsecure yard and do not watch him??
Yeah, that's exactly what I do - you got me. I throw him out unattended in an unfenced yard to go run around and impregnate every mutt in the hood. *sigh*
Did you read my post? I said most people. We're talking about the average owner here who does NOT watch their dog every milisecond. And crap happens. Not to mention that when your dog is in heat you can't safely take them out and about.

I care for my animals and I take the time to supervise them. I don't need to have them cut open and have parts removed to keep them from getting pregnant.
So your dogs ears and tail are natural you're saying? Cuz your dogs probably don't need to be cut on and have parts removed to look or hear better either.

I would suggest discussing those 'random facts' with a few different Vets if you do not believe them. Watching your dog is a much safer way to keep them from getting pregnant than having them cut open...
Yeah, my vets are pro spay/neuter. Especially the ones that have done volunteer work at shelters. And here's a quote on another very recent thread about spaying/neutering by Doberkim - who is a vet, by the way.
I'm interested to see why a tibbie can't be spayed... I routinely spay guinea pigs, rabbits, rats and mice - all who do well and if I can spay a 60 g mouse, then a tiny dog can be spayed

Personally I can't wait until Berlin gets spayed - next month!!!!! I'm not sure who would WANT to live through heat cycles - her cycles have had such a negative effect on our training and our ability to do things that I just want it over! We toyed with the idea of breeding her, and her health testing will be completed no matter what - but I just what it out of there!

And with the risk of pyometra and mammary cancer, it's just not worth it to me. I see these things so many times a week, I just want the risk of pyo out of mind right now!!!! And I'd really like to have that month every 6 months back where my bitch can start to take hikes and come for walks with us - because I don't believe there is any responsible way to take your bitch in season for walks, hikes or on trips with you. It's just not safe.
And it's not fair to her that she always got left at home!

So Berlin, here's your life back!!!!!
Here's the full thread, where they discuss the article that i think you quoted from. (and de-bunk the science of the statistics.)

I respect that you don't spay/neuter your dogs - that's fine if you truly are doing it right. But to advise the average joe not to is irresponsible.

And your general posting tone is argumentative and superior. And tiresome. Can't you be respectful?

The guy told me that he worked all day long, he had them locked up in a tiny cement backyard all day with no shelter, absolutely no socialization to anyone other than himself. He said they were agressive with strangers, and when we walked up to the fence to view them they barked and jumped at us agressively. Puppies should not be agressive but If I were treated like that, even at 6 months I would be agressive too.
What did you do for your dog when you found out she was agressive at 2?
Did you put her in classes??

lol, I never asked for advice on when to get my dog spayed, I already made up my mind, So you cant say i dont want to learn, your just mad because I dont agree with you... I dont want my dog to come into heat, that doesnt make me irresponsible, you should be thanking me for not risking the chance of puppy pregnancy and another unwanted litter of byb pups. I believe most here advocate against bybers/ or unplanned pregnancies.. Our roommate has a male dog living here from time to time and I just dont want to take a chance. I dont think it really matters how much experience you have with dobermans to know when to spay, I asked many vets and they all agree I should do it early.

I understand you're quite set on 4 months....but if I'm not mistaken, Dobermans don't generally go into heat by 4 months(I can't think of any breeds in particular that do-sorry that happened with your Pit.). BUT the nice part about this forum is you have access to A LOT of breeders, whom have owned many intact females. Why don't you ask when the earliest they've seen a female go into heat was and base your decision off of that collective information.

Honestly, and I am not attacking your decision, I understand, based on your life experience, why you'd like to spay that early, but 4 months really is quite young. I think you'll have a few more months than with your Staffie/Pit.

I also understand when to spay your female was not why you started this thread. Best of luck with Her ears, whatever decision you make.

My dober girl did not come in to her first heat til she was 12 months old. My rottie came in at 11 months.

Three pups are nothing!!! That is a ridiculous number to base you opinion on. I had two litters of five each, bought three more puppies. One puppy out of my second litter stood after one taping.

You may go a lifetime without ever having this to happen to one of your pups. More than likely you will.

This is for both of the above. You know it doesn't even matter whether Zeva's Dad puppy's ears are standing or not. Perhaps the pup's ears have fell by now or perhaps they have not, doesn't matter.
The point is that a doberman puppy's show cropped ears can and do stand after only one taping. Doesn't happen often but it does happen. I know because I have bred and owned a pup whose show cropped ears stood after one taping. Her name was Ruubach's Queen of Hearts and she was cropped by Patty Edwards. Patty taped her ears over the top of her head and there they stayed until they were healed. I taped the ears the first time and when I took them down Dannon's ears stood and I never had to tape them again. She had a very long show crop, the longest in the litter.

MaryandDobes has stated that she has had two puppies whose ears stood after only one taping. jdd has agreed with my statements, I cannot find the post but she either agreed that the ears could stand after one posting or that they could stand before three months. I am going to pm her and hopefully she will come here and clarify that statement.

It has now gotten to the point that people are calling me and MaryandDobes liars. Is that what you are saying??? Are you saying we are lying about our puppies ears standing after one taping???
Zeva's ears are standing up like a rocket ! and she is doing fantastic! .. To all the non believers that want me to start a thread lol after the response i received from some people, No thanks not worth my time or energy some of you think you have seen and know it all and it seems to bother you more that i didnt have to repost zeva's ears and you had to continue to post yours sad ... bottom line get a quality crop work the ears with squeaky toys DAILY and with a little luck who knows you too could be the bad guy on the forum , ya think with all these fancy bloodlines you would see more of that lol goodnight
