How many different types of toys do they have? (Kong’s, ropes, balls, stuffed ) What are their favorite ones?I have them all kongs, ropes, balls that make noise and balls that dont, and stuffed toys.
Are they destructive with their toys? Depends on the toy. Stuffed yes she is. She pulls the stuffing out and tears it to piece but she will still be carring it around 6 - 8 months later. The only other toy we have had to replce is her frisbee. She broke that to pieces.
How long do they last? Stuffed toys less then 1 week but she will still play with it. Frisbees about 4 - 6 months.
Do you have a “Serial Stuffie Killer”? (Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition) Yes my dog is a " Serial Stuffie Killer "
Do they play with them nicely? She is also sort of not as well. I have a 3 foot tall teddy bear that she now uses as a pillow and she doesnt distroy it. She doesnt even chew on it unless she pulling off my bed.
Do they with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs?By herself but me and my mother and everyone else cant help but play with her with them LOL
If you play with them, What games do you play?Tug of war and fetch
Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviors with all toys or only with certain ones? Only with certain ones but she only aggressive towards the toy no one else or animal. LOL

Kohl loves those little red street hockey balls. LOVES THEM! He sleeps with them. Stuffies don't last a minute in our house. Stuffing everywhere! We tent to buy alot of those sqeeky toys from the dollar store. We take out the squeakers (safety reasons)

We bought him a thigh bone from the butcher the other day.. I think we have found a winner of all toys!

stuffed mouse from Petco, now shredded, frisbee, rope, and her favorite is a toy called the Holy Roller made out of Kong rubber - it's awesome!
Are they destructive with their toys? How long do they last? oh yeah! not long at all.
Do you have a “Serial Stuffie Killer”? (Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition) or do they play with them nicely? Maggie has just crossed the threshhold into being a "serial stuffie killer"
Do they with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs? If you play with them, What games do you play? both. Maggie retrieves as good as any Lab.
Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviors with all toys or only with certain ones? none at all.

Java should be on the FBI's most wanted serial stuffie killer list, a black bar over her eyes! Loves to whip stuffies back and forth, then tear into them, pull out the squeaker, chomp it, spit it out and proceed to remove every last trace of stuffing.....NEXT! Needless to say, I stopped buying stuffed/squeaker toys since she was 10 mos old or so. Have a toy I bought from JB Wholesale - plastic cube that dispenses treats - will play w/ it for 1/2 hour solid, or until it no longer dispenses treats. LOVES tug of war, but the rope toy gets put away afterward or else I'd find a mess of string w/in minutes. Learning to retrieve a frisbee, tennis balls, etc.

OBSESSED WITH:
stuffies and rope toys (Unfortunately, they only last a few minutes or unravel), socks and laundry items.

LIKES:
Nylabones, sterilized bones, empty water bottles, tennis balls, frisbees

SO-SO:
Kongs, rubber toys/balls etc., anything too big for her mouth

AGGRESSION:
High value things like bully sticks (she'll growl at everyone but myself)

How many different types of toys do they have? ( Kong's, ropes, balls, stuffed ) What are their favorite ones?
Hundreds!! A box in the lounge, a box in the dining room and a box in the bedroom!! They have a Kong each which they have their lunch in. Tuggy ropes, lots and lots of stuffed toys, most of which Diesel tries to rip into a thousand pieces, tennis balls, and a couple of towels. Diesel's favourite is actually one of Abbie's stuffed toys, a pink handbag! Of all the things he could choose...! Abbie has her special 'babies' which do not get ripped and that go to bed with her.
Are they destructive with their toys? How long do they last?Diesel - yes very destructive at the moment although he is getting better. I think its just the novelty of having toys ( 4 and half years living on a scrapyard with nothing) Abbie has her moments!!
Do you have a "Serial Stuffie Killer"? ( Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition ) or do they play with them nicely?Diesel is a killer! Stuffed toy to big old mess in less than 3 seconds! Abbie saves her killings for special occasions!
Do they play with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs?Abbie does both. Diesel prefers to play alone. He likes to throw a toy in the air and catch it. Abbie is trying to get him to play tuggy with her but he doesn't understand.
Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviour?
No. The first thing I always teach is a " leave it" so no matter how valuable the toy is to them they will release it without hesitation.

Red has A LOT of toys... let's see, he has:
  • Kongs
  • Plush stuffed animals with squeakies
  • Tug-of-war rope
  • Tennis balls
  • Bad Cuz (those squeaky rubber balls with feet)
  • Holee Roller
  • Kong frisbee

His favorite are the stuffed squeaky animals, the Bad Cuz, and the Kong frisbee. He doesn't play with the other listed toys at all, unless I initiate the game.

Even with the stuffed animals being his favorite (therefore they take quite a beating), he has never shredded one yet (in the 7 weeks he's been palying with them). He shakes them and chews them, but he has never ripped one yet. He hasn't "killed" any of his toys yet, thankfully

Nope, as I mentioned above, Red doesn't shred any of his "stuffies". He shakes and chews them constantly but he hasn't disemboweled one yet!

Red plays with the toys himself a lot, but his preference is to play with us. He'll bring a sodden stuffie over and lay it in our laps so we'll throw it for him. And he lays down and squeaks his Bad Cuz NON-STOP until we take it away, LOL

He doesn't have any other dogs to play with on a regular basis, but he has tried to offer his toys to the cats to play with, but they are not interested, haha

Nope, no toy aggression at all. He knows that if he gives it to us, the game of fetch will continue so he's happy with that!

Kip LUVS tennis balls, but he only gets them when we're actively playing fetch, because he EATS them. Big time.
He never gets a chance to try a stuffie because my kids collect stuffed animals and it is easier to make them all off limits.
He also likes playing with the cat's toys. Actually, I don't know if playing is the right word. When he is bored, he very gently picks up one of the cat's mousies, puts it gently in my lap and just stares at me. I haven't figured out what he wants--he doesn't fetch it if I throw it, but instead just stares at me longingly.
He will work on a stuffed kong, but only for the food--he's just not much of a chewer.

Holly never plays with a toy, period. She is above all that, even when whe was a puppy, just not interested. (maybe because she was a rescue.)

Sora:All toys go in toy box, along with what ever else (shoes) she puts in there during the day.
5 ropes
1 rope with bone on it
1 fleece pull
1 octupus pull with 8 legs (cordova, like horse blanket)
9 stuffed animals with squeaky - frog sounds, duck quacks, pig noises, etc.
1 empty milk jug
2 empty plastic soda bottles
4 latex squeakys
5 store bought knuckle bones (just threw away 6 she wasn't chewing anymore.)
1 set of plastic keys
4 hooves (3 stuffed)
3 pig ears
Can't remember all, and can't find the rest!

The only thing Sora destroys? ANYTHING SHE IS NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE!
Although she usually chews the non-permited things at my feet so I can scold her, or, she brings them and puts them in my lap. How can you scold that? I'm a pushover.

RIP Holly ~ 12 3/4 years old - enjoying summer. [IMG]

-My dog has everything from rawhide bones, to stuffed animals, to a plastic toy tire that is supposedly indestructable!
Are they destructive with their toys? How long do they last? he is extremely destructive... toys last a day or two if lucky.
Do you have a “Serial Stuffie Killer”? (Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition) or do they play with them nicely?
-Stuffed toys are the worst. they dont last an hour before being destuffed.
Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviors with all toys or only with certain ones?
-yes, with rawhide bones.

-Indy's (4 mos old) favorite is the "Wubba" by the makers of the Kong. He also has a nylabone, a ball, a rope and a couple of more durable squeaky toys.

-The Wubba and nylabone have lasted; the stuffed toys haven't faired so well.

-He destroyed Mr. Froggy in one day.

-He's really good at entertaining himself but we also play fetch the ball and tug.

-Only the stuffed ones, I think he wants to squeak them to death.

[quote=Kratty;10801]Town Hall Topic – Toys

How many different types of toys do they have? (Kong’s, ropes, balls, stuffed ) What are their favorite ones?
my two have toys of all catagories. Their favorites are the rope pulls, and balls.
Are they destructive with their toys? How long do they last?

Oh my yes! Depends on the toy. Normal range of life: 1-3 days.

Do you have a “Serial Stuffie Killer”? (Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition) or do they play with them nicely?
My two are the worst serial stuffie killers! They love to skin them!
Do they with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs? If you play with them, What games do you play?
They play alone, with me, with each other. They love to play tug of war with each other or anybody willing to get dragged around.
Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviors with all toys or only with certain ones?
My two are competitive with each other in a nice way. After the initial day or two then we have no issues as they all go into the toy bin. Sebastian however, is my hoarder and will lay on both toys! Bones are a bone of contention (no pun intended). I learned the hard way to give one to them seperately.
We have toys that are a few months old and are played with infrequently. There are others that they will take out after a long period of time of not using them and play with them for hours. Their kongs have been around as long as they have!

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your Doberman. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

* How many different types of toys do they have? (Kong’s, ropes, balls, stuffed ) What are their favorite ones?
He has a rope bone, a hard chewy bone, and two balls - one tennis-sized and the other a rugby ball that squeaks!

* Are they destructive with their toys? How long do they last?
Not destructive at all

* Do you have a “Serial Stuffie Killer”? (Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition) or do they play with them nicely?
I haven't given him any stuffed toys.

* Do they with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs? If you play with them, What games do you play?
We play together quite often, although he also plays alone. He likes to fetch the ball and bring it back to me, or play tug of war with the rope bone.

* Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviors with all toys or only with certain ones?
He seems particularly aggressive with the old shoes we gave him!

Poppy was a toy murderer, would shred any toy she got then never play with it again. Cricket (RIP) liked soft toys and blankets, she sucked on them. Libby is gentle with her toys, just carries them around, though she did get my sisters toy bunny (one she has slept with since she was a baby) and Libby shreded it.

Do they with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs? If you play with them, What games do you play?
Poppy (RIP) loved to play tug-O-war with any person, and also played with our mix breed dog if you put an end in each of their mouths... they wouldn't initiate the game with each other

That is Quinn to a tee, however Bella just carries them around and drops them outside so we have to make toy pickup 2-3 times a day.

I'm kinda at a loss with toys. Saint has destroyed every toy i've ever got him. I bought in a Kong Wubba on Saturday and 30 mins later it was destroyed. Tennis balls last a good 2 minutes. Ropes or balls get trashed. I'm scared to give him anything else in case he destroys it and swallows it. I'm tired of buying toys and they just get trashed. The only toy that has ever lasted was a starfish that was a TUFFIE, which lasted a good month or so. So... he gets raw bones and a stuffed Kong. Any other suggestions??

Rush really has not been destructive. His toys are all about 3-4 weeks old [I've only had him since just before Xmas]. He has a 3-ring rope-type toy which has held up well, altho one ring is starting to shred. A small Wubba has also held up well, just one tiny hole in the cloth covering the ball on the end. His current favorite is a braided monkey Wubba toy, no damage so far [only a week old]. I give him rawhide stick chews which he loves but have to watch him because he has started swallowing them when they get small. I gave him a medium size white rawhide bone once but had to take it away, he was gnawing pieces off and ended up with long gooey strands of rawhide in his mouth - I was afraid he would choke or obstruct. He also has a braided rope tug toy but I'm leery of the strings - it is still intact due to little usage.

He's also doing really well with the mouthing of hands, it is rare for him to bite anymore, even by mistake - he licks instead. :-)

ETA: Rush also has a nylabone, which he enjoys every so often; and he likes the kong when it's stuffed. I've made a point of holding onto one end of any bone or rawhide chew he has so he's used to having hands around his toys - no aggression. Loves to chase a tennis ball but not so good about bringing it back.

How many different types of toys do they have? (Kong’s, ropes, balls, stuffed ) What are their favorite ones?

All kinds! Kongs, a rope tug, a rope ball to throw, all kinds of squeaky or quacky stuffed animals or this one skunk toy that makes a skunk noise (I guess) when you shake it. Her chuck-it ball, rubber squeaky balls, rubber squeaky toys, tennis balls, nylabone, rubber teething/tug toys, frozen teething toys, raw hide bones...oh, and just regular stuffed animals too. OH and those toys stuffed with a plastic bottle inside so when she clamps down it makes noise like crumpling a plastic bottle.
Are they destructive with their toys? How long do they last?
She really hasn't been destructive really. All her toys are still intact except one rubber squeak pig that she tore a hole through so it doesn't squeak anymore. She IS only 5 months old though, but really none of her toys are torn. Even her little pluto stuffed animal that we got for her for the car ride home when we brought her back from the breeder is still intact and that wasn't even a dog toy, it was meant for babies. She likes her squeaky toys most but she really just likes clamping her mouth down to make it make noise, she doesn't really try to tear anything apart. She HAS chewed her chuck-it ball thrower up pretty good though back when we didn't keep her away from her toys. That was her favorite thing to chew on. She's a chewer (teething probably), not a destroyer.
Do you have a “Serial Stuffie Killer”? (Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition) or do they play with them nicely?
Nope, her favorite thing to do with stuffed squeaky toys (even the smaller ones) is to hold them in her mouth and bite down repeatedly to make it squeak. She'll trot around with it in her mouth just squeaking it.
Do they with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs? If you play with them, What games do you play?
She plays with toys by herself if it's the first time she's seen it or if she hasn't seen it in awhile, then she wants it. Otherwise I'll play 'go-get-it!' with her or tug with her tug toys.
Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviors with all toys or only with certain ones?
Nope, no aggressive guarding behavior of anything.

How many different types of toys do they have? (Kong’s, ropes, balls, stuffed ) What are their favorite ones? -squeaky Kong-brand tennis balls - she can hear one about 2 miles away at the dog park!
-black kong stuffed with treats or peanut butter
-rope toy
-a very loud squeaky red ball she got in a gift set last year. She usually "discovers" it late at night right after I've gone to bed, and she is not tired & doesn't want to sleep ;-P

Are they destructive with their toys? How long do they last? -only the plush kind (usually that belongs to some other dog or is given to ehr as a gift by some unknowing person)- she decapitates it within about 5 minutes - proudly displaying the debris around her! :-)

Do you have a “Serial Stuffie Killer”? (Stuffed toys that are shredded beyond recognition) or do they play with them nicely? Definitely a serial stuffie killer

Do they with the toys by themselves or do they play with you or other dogs? Mostly by herself - she does not get possesive of toys with other dogs, but I find that often other dogs will get possesive, so I prefer to avoid that sort of conflict. When we are at the dog park, she will never get in a fight over a toy, she'll give it up if the other dog is being agressive. That said, she is the master of sneakily stealing it back! If she has a ball, she tends to keep to herself and be less social, so I only give her a ball if there is nobody at the park that day....

If you play with them, What games do you play?
play keep-away with the rope toy

Have you seen any toy aggressive behaviors with all toys or only with certain ones? No, she does not get possessive with toys. She doesn't like to be disturbed when she has a knuckle bone - but that's a treat not a toy...

First, they came for the Pit Bulls, but you didn't speak out because you don't have a Pit Bull.
Then they came for the German Shepherds, but you didn't speak out because you don't have a German Shepherd.
Then they came for the Akitas, but you didn't speak out because you don't have an Akita.
When they come for your dog, will anyone speak out for you? FIGHT BSL
