• Sleep in your bed with you? Do they sleep on top or under the covers? When did they first start sleeping in the bed? Or do they have their own bed?

GKar does both. As a rule he sleeps in bed under his own throw blanket but if I move to much or it is hot he will get in his own bed which is on the floor next to my bed. He has been doing this since he was about 6 months old. Prior to that he slept in a crate next to the bed. He is the only dog I have ever had that knows the difference between a made and unmade bed. He will not get on an unmade bed even if I leave.

• Sit/sleep on your furniture? Do they have their favorite piece of furniture? How many have leather couches? When did you first ley them sit on the furniture?

GKar is a furniture sleeper but does not sit like I have seen some dogs do. He likes to use the couch that has the best view so he can watch for me but anywhere I sit is ok when I am home. I have leather.

*Chaz is trying his hardest to not let byron sleep on the bed but he gives those big sade eyed looks and he lets him up. But he does have his own bed he is allowed on at any time. We have been looking for a race car bed for him

*byrons always been on the furniture. if you are on it he just sits on you instead. The couch in the living room has a sheet on it because hs sit there the whole time we are gone and stares out the window,so tis kinda hairy But he also site on these goofy chairs we have in the den. I don;t know how he fits,I'll have to get a pic sometime.

Yes trinity sleeps in my bed with but not that often shes great during the winter time. LOL She sleeps on top of the covers she moves in her sleep and it hurts if shes under the covers. Trinity started sleeping in my wince she was a pup. LOL Whats funny is she has 3 beds of her own through out the house. Well 1 in the living room and 2 in my bedroom. LOL

Trinity loves couches but knows that when we want to sit she moves. LOL We don't have to say anything all we have to do is snap. She would be sleeping on them right now but we don't have couches are more. LOL We need new ones. LOL

Duchess has been sleeping in our bed since she was old enough to use the doggy door to go potty. Just a couple of weeks ago she has insists on getting under the covers now! She will stand next to my bed and stare at me until I move over and she can jump up and put her head under the covers and push until I lift them up for her...then she will get comfortable and plop down next to me. lol It's very cute but she takes advantage of inviting herself under the covers lol or expecting me to let her under the covers. She runs and jumps and lays down on all parts of the leather couch...oh wait but if WE are sitting on the couch she insists on sitting on your lap and pushing herself into your chest!!! haha.

King has slept on the bed, and under the covers since day one. He even has aa pillow...lol. He will usually come to bed, chew on a bone for a while, then beadbutt me to get under the covers. If i have fallen asleep before that, he will go lay down somewhere else.

King sits/sleeps where he pleases. Most of the time he likes to sit in my chair, but he knows that when i want to sit down, its time for him to get up.

Hmmm, maybe this is why he has no confidence...i baby him too much.

When my husband travels, cody would be in bed (on top of the covers, but somehow managing to get my pillow before the night was over) with me all night. When Jason is home, I usually go to bed first and Cody would curl up with me and then Jason would send him down to his bed for the night.

there are no beds big enough for a 6'4" husband and a 90 lb. dobe who HAS to be in the middle.

Cody has one favorite couch when he is home alone, unless our bedroom door is open, then it would be back on my pillow. anyone's lap was always a good second choice. He preferred cloth couches over leather.

We got our Doberman on Tuesday. He sleeps in his crate thingy at night. I work night shift and I got home late this morning (Friday) at around noon. My two smaller children were napping and I walk in my bedroom to find Maximus on the bed with my husband. I said "What is that??" He said, "THAT is a dog." "Why is Maximus on the bed?" "Because it is comfier up here." I can assure you at the dog was picked up and put on the bed because my children have to pull and climb to get on to the bed because it is so tall. Hopefully this will not continue..... His crate has my best blanket and good padding. My husband decided that wasn't enough and gave the dog MY bed pillow and one of our kids' baby blankets! SHEESH

As for the furniture, in alignment with all of the puppy training I've read, I said Maximus would only get on the couch if invited. I worked nights the last two nights and so after sleeping today I get up and Chris is showing me "all these cute pictures he's taken with the digital camera of Maximus on the couch" and "its so funny how he has to get on the couch because he has to claw his way on to it" and how "Maximus and the kids laid on the chair and watched Power Rangers".....sigh....."Chris, does the dog just GET on the furniture or do you invite him? He needs to know that its for humans and he can come up when asked. I don't want him jumping on guests (if we ever had them) especially if they're scared of dogs." "Invite him? What?"
Oh brother.

Good parent/bad parent

1. Sleep in bed with you.. No, When we got our first dog pit/boxer he did but then he kept hogging the bed so AT the moment none of our boys sleep with us. We will see how jack is when hes older. But at the moment the two older dogs have TWO couches to choose from to sleep on and jack sleeps in his doggie bed. which will be moved to our room when he gets house broken fully.
2. Favorite couch? Oh yes. We have two couches and a sectional (two recliners and fold out bed style), At the moment the dogs arent allowed on the sectional (i have caught my self and have had jack up there with me 2 times already). But for a favorite couch for the older dogs it would be the germany couch that is old style green plaid thing. they are allowed on the other couch but prefer the germany one. As to jack he doesnt have a Fav yet. as long as he is next to my feet or close by.

Here's a fun one to see how spoiled our dobies are. My bet is that they are....

Do you let your doberman……

• Sleep in your bed with you? Do they sleep on top or under the covers? When did they first start sleeping in the bed? Or do they have their own bed?

~One sleeps with me and they sleep on top. just started a while back yes they have both as well as their own bedroom.

• Sit/sleep on your furniture? Do they have their favorite piece of furniture? How many have leather couches? When did you first ley them sit on the furniture?

~sleep/sit on furniture... they have a Chair and sofa of their own we are getting micro fibre. they started when they were like a couple months here.

Snickerdoodle,
This post made me reflect on your conversation with Kratty and I in the chat room. I remember we both agreed that it sounded like your male was getting mixed signals from you as the pack leader and that could be (at least partially) part of this aggression problem you are dealing with. Allowing him access to your bed and furniture could be sending him the wrong signals. Of course we all know dogs that are fine with this and don't try to usurp their owners as head of the pack; however, a particularly dominant dog may take these gestures out of context and "think" they mean that he is in charge. I would rethink allowing him privileges like sleeping with you or being on the sofa with you and especially sleeping with and on top of you until you can speak with a behaviorist...

Da'Kari goes to bed first and then we have to drag her off the bed to go into her crate which is right beside my bed. It's like she becomes a two ton log LOL she will not help, she makes us work her off. Sometimes we let her stay in the bed at night, what we are doing is letting her sleep with us occasionally and most of the time in the crate. Hubby has to get up really early in the morning (4 a.m.) for work and so he says he doesn't sleep good when she is in our bed so usually on the weekends she gets to. What we are hoping to do soon is get her a nice doggie bed to put beside the bed to sleep on and hoping she will stay there but I have my doubts. Nash who is only 11 weeks old is still in the crate at night in our bedroom also, so right now the room has two large crates, it's getting crowded LOL

Da'Kari has always been allowed to lay on the living room furniture. Again Nash is still young, he is being crate trained and when resting he is in the crate. Eventually, when I know he is pretty much house trained he will have run of the house through the day and I am sure he will be up there on the couch as well.

Now that we have had Apollo for a while, he's gotten his sleep habits together and where he likes to hang out. He does sleep in bed with us, but he curls up and the foot end of the bed, so we hardly know he's there. once in a while he will get up in the middle of the night and sleep with my oldest (sharing the love). on sunny days when he is in the house he hangs out where ever the sun is shining inside. when he is not sleeping in the sun he is on the new - yes, I said new - couch.

during dinner he usually is right next to me (not trying to take food, but just there) and last night the discussion came up that he should have a seat at the table.

If that happens I will definitely capture THAT kodak moment and share with you.

Carrie,
I just love reading your posts about Apollo. Just think, a few months ago he was taken to a vet to be put to sleep because he was uncontrollable (wasn't that his previous owners excuse?). Your love for him is obvious in your posts and he sounds like such a gentleman. I bet you'd love to find his original owners and tell them what idiots they are... I know I would ;-)

Harvey has slept with us only a few times. Mainly if we have been away alot and we let him come to bed with us as we are feeling guilty and not spending alot of time with him. He likes to lie on top of the covers stretched out full length next to me with his head on my pillow. he never does that with his dad though - just me. He sleeps in our t.v room at night in his bed. Its the same routine every night lol. I tuck him in with his blanket, put his water bowl near to him and a toy - give him a kiss on the top of his head say i love you and its lights out.

He gets on the sofa with us when we tell him he can and he gets off when we tell him to. Usually i will stack up a few cushions and lay on the floor with him for a cuddle next to the fire. We dont have a leather sofa but i wish i did with the hairs..luckily i've got a great hoover

Sometimes Senta will get up on the bed with me.. I really dont like it tho... she is a total bed hog and I probably have about 1ft of bedspace for myself. She has always liked her couch. I have always let my Boston sleep with me and sometimes I think Senta feels she needs to be up there too... 2 dogs is to much.. no sleep..... she always looks so pathetic when I tell her 'not tonite my sweet senta.. but mama has to get some rest"

I have caved in and let Java come and sleep on my bed when I've been home alone. Even with a few old sheets covering the duvet cover, I still found dog hair in the bed, and with winter coming and flannel sheets season around the corner, I know that once those sheets are down and dog hair gets on them, you can never get it out of flannel. You have to pick it out! One night I put down an old polar fleece blanket at the end of the bed for her to curl up in, and even though she had just been washed the day before, the room smelled faintly like warm puppy the next day. Love her to pieces, but not exactly Chanel No 5.....Looks like it's high time I got Java her own pillow for our room, or else just put her in the crate where she has been perfectly happy from day one.

Java is not allowed on the furniture, although I have caught her on the living room couch, head resting on the arm - perfect vantage point to see who is coming down the stairs! She knows perfectly well she isn't allowed up there, because as soon as I hit the landing, I heard her jump off the couch and she casually stretched in the foyer and looked at me as if to say 'Me? On the couch? Never!'....Am looking into leather couches, but definitely one with a distressed hide, so that a nick or scratch will only add to its 'charm'.

ha ha, sorry I came in so late.

I've got leather couches but I keep them covered. But yes, Yogi gets whatever he wants. The guests can sit on the floor and he can have the couch
