So I'm sure this well get a big "Duh" from a lot of people but Tater is the first dog I've had from puppyhood. Before him, all of my dogs have been at least 2 or 3 by the time I got them. When he was a puppy, he had a lot of bursts of energy but there was also a ton of nap time while he was growing a lot. Over the past few months he's like nonstop energy. We have a pretty large yard where he runs around like a freak multiple times a day and we spend a fair amount of time doing training. He does eventually get tired out and I'm not complaining at all, but wow he's like the freakin' energizer bunny!

Just curious if you are taking him out and stimulating his mind with new sights, scents & experiences? The same old thing can get boring and not very stimulating. Thats my opinion anyway. I love taking them somewhere new. They are very excited to be somewhere new. After an outing they always come home and take naps! :) Sometimes longer than others.

ETA: Sometimes if I have been busy and have just done the regular routine or b/c of weather. I will take Kyrah to the petstore which I dont go to very often. Or Bass Pro (hunting store) I rarely go to which there is so much to see. Its always busy. They have stairs which we get to do. Once we get upstairs she can see downstairs. This always seems to get her attention. If its not real busy I might do the elevator. I am always looking for new places to take her. We went to the river this past weekend which was a first! They had so much fun!

Yep, we do switch things up and there are times that he konks out. It's just the overall amount of energy that the lil dude has and how he's always so eager to go go go. Sometimes even when we can tell he's getting tired out it's like he still wants to keep going!

Our older dog is much like yours. When she gets to go somewhere new or we switch out the toys we are using for play time (they have some they always have access to and some special ones that only come out once in awhile) she ends up tuckered out and ready for a nap.

He just turned a year old, right? Sounds totally normal. Fiona ran me into the ground until she was almost 2 and I'm a really active person anyway. Smart, smart, smart and super busy is the name of the game.

His energy will likely level off in the next year or so as long as you work to keep him busy. Agility training worked wonders for focusing Fiona. It gives her an amazing energy outlet and forces her to really think about what we're doing. She's wiped out after a couple hours of agility. :)
