Title says it all, this Thursday he gets his new head style.
I am getting a good known vet for this area to do his crop.
Long (show crop) is out of the question, as I personally think it looks like bunny ears, that's just me, so plZ don't feel insulted.
I am teetering between a short (military crop) and a medium.

I will seek the vets expertise to also help me decide based on his head frame and parent pics. In the end I just want a traditional look with less amount of time spending on posting.
Prev my late female had I believe a medium cut and if memory serves me, I had only posted her a month or so and they were bang on.

if anyone has pics of their short or medium crops, it would be appreciated. I have scoured the pics on the net, but just want other views.

On Thurs my Nubis will be 9 week 2 days at the time of the crop, I am so glad I got him prior to the crop as we are bonding so well. I went the route of getting him as soon as I got him because i feel it helps bonding to their surogate family. He was the runt, so he needed a family soon.

Photo of Tanya, born in 1977...easy crop to stand / because the slice were not pear shaped, in the tips.
- I would call it a medium crop (maybe by today's standards)...I wouldn't want to go any shorter

I heard one of the best Ontario Vets doing crops, is in London.
Who is doing your Nubis crop ??

yes the vet is the infamous Dr.Staples.
I wanted one of the best nearest me. My Kaisers ears never stood, simply cuz after a month of posting and his other issues I had to give up. When I got my Lady, the breeder had a very good cropper from BC flown in. IMHO her eyes were next to perfect.

Personally I like a long crop. (the user bean had a a dog with an extremelyyy long crop I love)
I'd suggest a medium.
Well thanks. But Si's crop is very long, actually too long for my personal taste had I chosen, but I chose for the breeder and his temperament - crop was done and everything else outweighs it for me.

I personally like some of the medium to medium-long crops. I consider Silas' a verrrrry long show crop. It would be nice to have a crop that didn't need posting as long. But a military crop just doesn't suit these regal dogs with long gorgeous lines. It seems out of place.

Edit: I doubt that a truly experienced Doberman cropping vet like Dr. Staples would consider a military crop anyway.

I am most likely getting the medium crop but on the low end verses say medium to long. I think it is an art with getting the adult final size.

Dreizehn's crop is a longer medium crop (at least, I'm pretty sure that it doesn't qualify as a long, show crop) and I love it. I feel like the crop perfectly fits his head . IMO, the short, military crops look really unnatural on an adult doberman. However, if the cropping vet that you're going to is skilled and knowledgeable, and knows what he's doing (and it seems like you picked the right vet) you should be able to trust him ti crop the ears in a way that looks best for the dog. When talking to my breeder about getting the pups cropped she mentioned that the vet she uses does the crop slightly differently for each dog, depending on their ears and bone structure, or something like that. What I"m getting at is a good cropper knows what they're doing and will leave you with a beautiful dog.

Sasha has a medium pet crop

I like this crop, the bell is proportionate to the size of the head giving it that distinguised look...

nice one also...see looking at the length of the ear it looks long but the size of the bell makes it look good for me.

I love Dreizehn's crop!

OP: Trying to dissuade you from a shorter crop with the following photos. A longer medium crop definitely suits the doberman head better:

He's got slight pockets as well, but he'd be so much better looking with nicer ears. :)

I'll definitely be going with a medium crop and let Dr Staples put his magic to it.

It looks good now that her head grew into it.
I think that is about it , growing into the head and I think a good cropper can foresee that. What might look like a show crop now, could end up being a medium if not done properly. I have been holding ears up and imagining the crop and if it was too tall, he would look funny and everyone would laugh at him and give him a complex lololol...
I think the good thing is after having him for 1.5 weeks is good because at least he knows what no is and settle. So in the event he messes with his ears he will somewhat listen. Hehehe

When we got Nexus back and first looked at her ears I thought holy cow! they are soooooo long! Same thing when we were done posting them, but I had to be patient and let her grow into them, and now she looks so pretty, her ears are a nice medium crop that suit her face and head perfectly. Then i went through it all again with Bella, though I do think her ears are a bit longer than Nexus, the vet cropped them to match her head, and size. It takes a good experienced vet to guage what length will look good on the dog when it matures. and so far we have not been disappointed in letting the vet decide just what length would be good on our dogs.
Prior to the surgery if I were you I would speak to the vet and see what he thinks will be good for your pup so you are not surprised when the cup comes off, find out before hand what length he feels will suit your puppys head.
