As the title says, What made you chose a dobe?

For me it all started when i was 14 years old. My aunt had a red Dobe named Patric. Sadly she gave him away because she couldnt handle him, and i wasnt allowed to take him because the apartment complex where i lived wouldnt allow dogs. Well i loved that dog. I cried my heart out when he left. I am actually trying to track him down to get King and Patric together. Anyway, From that day forward, i needed my very own Patric, and i got one, only better. :punk:

Had an APBT before, she died a couple years back and just recently my husband told me that he was much more comfortable when Storm was around. He's military and is gone more than he's home and he worried about my daughter and I alone all the time. Storm wasn't really a very good watch dog (most Pits aren't from what I understand) but she made one great deterrent :) Since owning another Pit is out of the question thanks to BSL we considered a few different breeds and finally decided on a Dobe, particularly because they are known to be so intelligent, look so graceful and refined and are clean (GSD lost out due to so much hair :).
Although we've only had Chihiro for about a month we are confident we made the right decision. She's just awesome. Not much of a barker when someone is at the door but our Chihuahua mix has that covered. We figure he's the alarm and she's the muscle :)

Having them as a little girl... The grace, the demeanor, I'm a fan of power dogs (so deemed aggressive dogs) not by the choice of "aggressive" dogs, just prefer dobes, German shep's, so so on rott's (I like them, don't think I would want one though), pitt's, with kids in a populated neighborhood, shep's can be a bit unpredictable for me right now, dobes however are a kind of dog that "asks questions firsts, bites after" However I still love my sheps, grew up with them, I think as soon as I move in the spring and get settled I wil look into rescueing a shep, or maybe just foster for now.... The dobe we had when I was a kid would pull my sis and I in a sled, so I quess it stems from that.

We got our first Red girl back in 1973. I have always had poodles growing up and I wanted to have a bigger dog. Also my husband was in the military and worked all kinds of shifts. We wanted a dog that would know what to do when i was alone. Well, we should have known better! Lady was a beautiful Red, but the Dam and Stud were Very gentle in nature, the puppies came out to be wimps! She was so timid that our 4lbs poodle ruled the roost over her as so did the 2 cats..Oh well, she was a wonderful dog for 10 great years.. After we got out of the military and settled down in one place, we decided that it was time to get another doberman. Well, one turned into FOUR and I would not have it anyother way!

I'm not exsactly sure what sparked my interest in Dobermans but the earliert memory I have of one is when I was around ten or so. My mom and I went to the MSPCA to look for a new dog and there was a gorgeous six month male waiting for a home. He was so sweet and well behaved for his age but I was taken aback at how beautiful he looked. I begged my mom, I was practically on my knees pleading for her to consider him but she had her heart set on another dog and well.... What mom says goes :sadcry: so we left him there but I've always had that image of him in the cage in my head. I still wonder what ever happened to him.

After that I looked more into the breed. I read everything I could get my hands on and talked at length to anyone who owned one. It just seemed too good to be true. In every way they seemed like the perfect dog for me. Even now I still can't believe how perfect Ava is for me but I know I'll never have another breed again.

My first interaction with a dobe came when I was about 18. I went with a friend to his labs' obedience class, and there was a huge black and tan there named Zeus. He was the most well behaved dog there, although I was a bit terrified of him at first (I was bit by a dog as a kid and sometimes still get finicky around new breeds/dogs I don't know, even though I love all dogs!) Once I warmed up to him I loved him to death. I never gave a second thought to the breed until I was searching and searching for the perfect dog for me. I wanted an aussie but decided against it for my first dog, plus I didn't want all that hair in my house! Then one day I went to petsmart and saw a red and rust that looked like a larger version of my then boyfriends min pin and fell in love :) I HAD to have one!! I did my research and talked with a lot of people and finally got a perfect match. I joked with my boyfriend that I was going to name my red and rust (if I got one) Rio Grande, because his min pins name is Rio :) Well now the boyfriend is gone and I miss the min pin more than him, but I still call Simon Rio Grande sometimes

When I was little my parents friend had one and I always remembered him being so big and pretty. So when I started looking for a dog a couple years ago I was thinking rott but as soon as I saw a dobe I had to have one. Read up on them, found some people that had them and fell completely in love with them. I got my boy five and a half years ago and I don't think I'll ever get another breed!
