Catch is one activity Anouk will do for zero treats, loves to play for quite a while. She loves catching mini kong/mini tennis balls. She is now no more than 50lbs but I’m getting paranoid one of these could lodge in her throat. At the same time, probably ridiculous since she’d have a tiny throat and I only toss these - a much slower toss than her catch/snap speed. We play indoors for short distance but it’s something I’d like to add to her yard play.

She will catch regular frisbees, small ones I found at PetSmart, $1.50 cheapos. Her least favorite thing to catch. She likes these Chuck-it rings that are pretty small but they are clunky heavy (rubber with rope imbedded around the rim - some kind of all purpose toy). She can catch a regular tennis ball. They bounce off her teeth more often and I think they are too big for her jaw (we use for fetch though).

She’s 9 months old but petite, I think. Doberman mix. She most likes these small tennis balls but I don’t know if these are good for longer range catch. Or if she’s going to end up only a medium sized dog should she catch a regular ball. I’ve only had fetching dogs. She started catching on her own. It was more interesting to her.

I cold never get my dogs to catch frisbees--they preferred chasing things that are bouncing or rolling on the ground.
She likes anything that moves. Catch she can do compulsively. I don’t know if I puppy fashion set her up for it during super cold days. She liked chasing many mini kong balls tossed at the same time, bouncing off the walls etc. (she liked that game for a long time; helpful for worst days of Jan/Feb). She still likes this a little. But she gets sick of it fast and prefers to over focus on one target vs the mayhem. It’s understandable.

She likes to stand up on the deck with her paws up on the railing, creeper style, watch me toss a ball from up there, and go down and get it. 5/6 I’d probably throw a frisbee into the neighbors yard from that angle so I won’t try that. I could toss from the yard, but she gets more run going down from the deck and the creeper lookout just makes me laugh.

Petunia is really big on catching..... Catching a nap in front of the fireplace. Popeye is also a big fan of catching. However he prefers to catch treats and bits of food that are tossed his way. He is quite good at it. Unfortunately, he is not so big on bringing them back to me.

Oh well.

My older dog will eat anything except lettuce and onion. If I toss a potato chip, apple slice, dog treat, bit of beet, carrot, piece of cereal etc - always bounces off his teeth because he catches it wrong. But he tries so hard. If I toss a little piece of meat he always catches it. So his brain turns out all it’s fuzz. But he prefers chasing moving targets (chuck-it and ball, raccoon etc)

My girls favorite thing is “fetch”. We use a Chuck it -flying squirrel
Lost the flying squirrel I had for my other dog a long time ago. Really good toy for snow. But I hadn’t thought of these because he never liked it so much - but they do seem designed better for catching than fetching.

I had a chuck-it small flyer thing, seemed made for smaller or younger dogs, but it’s foam with soft rubber edges so she only wanted to chew and eat it. I threw it away. The squirrel ones she’d probably be more interested in returning to me.

these look like fun - I picked up one of everything I found at PetSmart and Fleet Farm, did not see this type. I have a PO Box only, most places like Chewy do not ship USPS anymore. Frustrating. But I eventually compile little lists for Anouk and have stuff shipped to a colleague. So far she does like the one of everything assortment I have, which isn’t so much - though I should get her a flying squirrel; easy to find locally

Tia loves to catch her $5 soft plastic ball I bought at the grocery store. She will chase a frisbee but isn’t proficient at catching it lol. Kato has an outdoor wubba.

I'm not a fan of frisbee catching, it's not something I teach my dogs or do with my dogs. They do like to play with them on their own time, which is fine. Too much twerking on the neck and the spine for me.

My dogs do love the chuck-it ball. Although that can be rough on them as well so I limit how long I will play with them.

These days, my dog will fetch tiny pieces of diet kibble. And any other food. Sometimes, when playing tug, he will fetch the tug and bring it back for more play. If I try a ball, he will usually wait for the ball to stop bouncing and rolling before moving to get it. I tried a frisbee once, and this is how well it went 😆 http://instagr.am/p/Bs7jPxrAv1e/ . He loses interest really fast if no food is involved.

Like ECIN's Mr. B, our Neo is a fan of catching HV treats, a.k.a. Swiss cheese bits in mouth, as he's highly food motivated.
Neo's still practicing, as shown in video clip below, to reach Mr. B's level of expertise... He's also just started catching a WestPaw's solid rubber ball on the bounce, not direct since it's very dense & heavy. This is one dog toy he can't destroy by chewing up. Neo hasn't been a ball dog from early on.

I toss eggs to my older dog but those are easy to catch. Super yum yum. He was swallowing them whole, which I’m sure was fine but it was annoying. I taught him to chew with an exaggerated face demonstration and he figured it out in one command because he was committed to eggs. But he will do anything in the world for a single potato chip.

I don’t throw a frisbee so well so she misses my crap throws, catches the ones i basically throw right toward her.

I put tennis balls away and head snuggle/pet her to transition to something else because she will chew the felt or whatever off a tennis ball. Then she’ll eat them, though over days. Not super interesting rubber material. A couple are likely lurking under the snow. She brings stuff up to the deck to chew or eat so I can take it away. They’ll be disgusting when they resurface in a couple weeks.

Scout likes the tennis balls, he chases them in the house and outside. Only thing is outside he'll catch them a few times then he runs away with them and hides them under the bushes, then comes back to me with this puzzled look on his face, like "where did it go"? After he goes in, I find the ball and bring it back in the house. next time he goes out he goes and looks for it, can't find it and runs all around looking under all of the bushes he like to hide them under.
