Can you please share your experience where to buy a good car barrier?
What should be I aware off?

We are looking for a new hatchback or SUV.

Thank you.

No dog carrier, for me either:

Wife has a Volvo wagon & I have a extended cab 4x4 Chev. truck.
- she stretches out in the back seat, usually / and has good vehicle manners
(she is allowed to jump into the passenger seat, when she wants, if driving alone)
I don't want her in the very back of the car or riding in the box of the truck.
- I want to be able to keep & eye on her...and talk to her, at times / she is a very happy dog, in a vehicle

You need a car barrier or a seat belt for a dog for safety reasons.

My dogs behave perfectly in the back seat... but I heard many horrible stories about pets flying through the front window during a car accident.

I remember a conversation about barrier's in one of Sam's OB classes. Someone asked the instructor about them and she was very against them. She explained that if ever you were in a rear-end collision (dog forbid) the dog is basically trapped or could be injured and escape. The trainer recommended crating or a seatbelt harness.

I use seatbelt clippers which attach onto their harness' to make it into a seatbelt, however if I had the car for it, I'd definitely want two separate crates in the back. Tobey always gets in first and doesn’t leave enough room for Rupert to get in after him! Rupert always ends up jumping on Tobey and squashing him.....

I have a Subaru Forrester and I use the cargo barrier that is appropriate for the model. It screws in firmly to various attachments already in the vehicle. The only thing we did was removed a welded in section of the barrier where they make a way for the middle lap seatbelt to feed thru and replaced with a flat section we had laying around.

I have mats and a quilt in there and it gives the dog a very secure location to relax in. I have also built a gate that covers the open back so when I am at trials, I can lock a dog in there and leave all the windows and the hatch open - a nice big crate you could say. My vehicle can't hold a dobe size wire crate so that is my solution.

Otherwise, I would get an SUV or a Ford Transit Connect that would allow 2 large 42" wire crates side by side with room for everything else in there too, plus a platform to put the crates on so I can slide ex pens underneath.

When I win the lotto I'll have a vehicle to carry crates for 3 dogs !!!!

Carson has to be crated. He'd eat the vehicle to eat the person outside of it.

I have seat belt harnesses, the best I could find, they don't fit the older seat belt clips. Careful there.

I have a Chevy Tahoe and 2 crates stay in the back. I have a 500 ad a 400. Flirt fits in the 400 for short rides but I prefer to put her in the 500.

A few years ago my pastor's daughter got in a small car accident on the freeway. She spinned and hit the center guard rail. She hit her head pretty hard and was dazed, opened the car door to check out the damage and her dog bolted out and was immediately hit :(
