So this morning our Belle had wayyy to much puppy energy and I had to work some of it off so against my better judgement I decided to take her for a walk around my development, the walk went great, I have her walking or should I say "pulling" me around on her leash ok. Anyways, every time she would see someone either working on their yard or standing out front she would do the typical stand and stare that these Dobes love to do, but I noticed that at a few of her stands and stares her little hackles were raised by the top of her butt. Is this anything that I should be concerned about? As soon as we would start walking again they would go down. At one point, one guy came over to see her and she stood in her stand and stare position, and piddled standing up. She is by far a very calm puppy, not nervous at all so between the one time she piddled standing up and the raised hackles on her but I was just curious if this is typical dobe puppy behavior. This was the first time we ever ventured off of my block and I know on a Sat morning she was probably on sensory overload but her energy level this morning was beyond containment so she really needed to work some of it off. She came home and was exhausted. took a long drink then konked out on her bed. LOL.

Sounds like she just needs ongoing work on socialization--the things you describe are typically signs of insecurity and the more different places, people, sounds, and so forth she is exposed to, in a calm non-threatening way, the better. She *should* grow out of this as you take her around more and more.

(I'm assuming the just over 3 month age your signature gives is correct)

That's totally normal behavior for a Doberman. I agree she needs as much socializing as possible.
If she stares and doesn't run away or hides behind you... that's a confident girl :)

Did you notice her tail? I bet it was up.
I learned "tail languge" long time ago and it helps to understand my Dobermans better.

yes she stood still and gave that really scary stare. I mean right now she is a baby but my gosh, that scare is quite scary for anyone on the receiving end. lol. I cant wait till she gets her shots this week so I can really start taking her out, right now we are on puppy quarantine because parvo is really bad out here.
