Ok, I'm curious now after reading one of the threads about weight & size. Does anyone know where you can compare a puppies growth rate to a chart? If the puppy is 6 months old what percentage of full weight is she, 7 months and so on? Its been a long time since Alex was a pup so I just don't remember.

okay i ahev had a real good search and have come up with nothing lol.

don't know that there really is a "growth chart" for dobe puppies, but the best rule of thumb is this:

1. You should easily be able to feel the ribs with gentle hand pressure, but not see them individually. If you cannot feel the ribs, your dog is too fat.

2. You should be able to see an obvious visual distinction between the the last rib and the back leg. If this area starts to "fill in", you're dog is getting too fat.

While puppies do need to eat increasingly more as they age to foster their growth, it's important not to overfeed, and you must constantly monitor their intake with their weight. This method also applies to adult dogs.

I also found this weight chart which is for GSD ..which is the closest one i could find..the others were for poms etc. I thought the GSD one would be better as they are not that different in height at adulthood .Maybe someone else could find a dobie specific one as im interested also :)

Age Weight Male % of Weight Female
(mo) Kg. lb. Total Kg. lb.

1 4.2 9.2 12.10 3.3 7.2

2 9.0 19.9 26.18 7.5 16.6

3 14.2 31.3 41.18 12.1 26.7

4 19.0 41.8 55 16.4 36.2

5 22.9 50.6 66.57 20.0 44.0

6 26.1 57.4 75.52 22.7 50.1

7 28.4 62.6 82.36 24.7 54.4

8 30.1 66.4 87.36 26.1 57.5

9 31.5 69.4 91.31 27.1 59.7

The general rule with Doberman puppy males is that they will weigh 20 lbs at 2 months, 30 lbs at 3 months, 40 lbs at 4 months, etc. After 6 months, the growth rate will slow down and level off. Female puppies, of course, would be somewhat less, usually about 5 lbs less.

Thank you Mary, this is neat to know... Everyone goes on about how HUGE Chi is... She'll be 20 weeks or 5 months on Friday and weighed in at 36 or 37 just two days ago... If anything I can say she's actually small for her age :)

Thanks for the info. I look at Suzy and think she is small but maybe I'm comparing her to Alex, although he is not a big Dobie by any means. Today she is 6 months and 52 pounds bit I don't know how accurate that is as I got on the scale with her.
