Too late Jen, check out my "I have a confession" post in the misc section of BC! I've always wanted a Dobie, and Randy thinks boxers are "ugly." He likes Dobes though!

Good for you! I just checked out the Dobes waiting adoption on Petfinder.com and the list is endless! Just breaks your heart. Makes me realize I need to make arrangements for Java should something happen to us. How heartbreaking it must be for someone to have to foster their Dobe due to illness.

Transporting can be a big help to a rescue. I have one lady that does a lot of transporting for us, and it's nice to know she can be counted on for that.

there are LOTS of ways you can help your local rescue without fostering. helping out at events: our rescue does two BBQ's a year, echos once a year, dog washes, etc, and any and all help is always greatly appreciated. and you never know when you might see a doberkid who just steals your heart.

In our experience rescues are always very grateful for help. We started off by going and walking the dogs, then started doing homechecks and transport as well. We go on a Saturday and walk the dogs, clean kennels, groom them etc, and quite often do transport, in fact thats how we came about meeting Diesel. We were supposed to be taking him to the kennels, but he never got that far!!
Its a great experience because you meet so many different personalities and learn how to handle dogs with different issues. I feel a lot more confident as a handler because of it. The only down side is that we want to bring them all home, it can be heartbreaking at times.

Boxers are ugly? lol. I think they are so cute. Esp. the puppies.

There are lots of ways to help out besides fostering. You can help clean, transport, donate goods, donate money and time, fund raise, do home inspections, build websites, paperwork, train the dogs, walk them, and stuff like that.
That is wonderful you are wanting to help out. There sure are a lot of rescue Dobes out there and that is a great way to experience the breed up close and personal =)
