Volunteer for Seattle Area

I live in the Seattle area and I am very interested in getting involved with a rescue organization. If anyone knows about one who needs some extra volunteers I would really love to know about it. thank you!!!

same as when looking to rescue, when you are looking to volunteer find the rescues in your area - the best place to start is the DPCA website to find a rescue nearest you.

There are so many things that people can do, but you usually need to start small until the people get to know you. I started by transporting dogs from the vet where they were just spay/neutered to the kennel we board a few dogs. I just happened to be geograpically located in a good spot for it. There is always a need for good foster homes.........but not everyone can do it.

Some rescues have an annual picnic and you could offer to help out there too.

Well i drive a sports car. my dog is used to it but many would not be used to the noise of my exhaust. So transport is probably out. I am willing to help in any way i can even if they just needed people to clean out the kennels or feed the dogs. I understand that dogs who are sent to rescues are often damaged in some way be it mentally or physically. I see a lot of complaints on this forum about rescues being undermanned. It doesnt seem fair that they would turn me away because they don't know me. It isnt about the rescue, its about the dogs. Rescues are going to continue to be undermanned if they keep telling people that they have to get to know them before they can volunteer.

Becca: I think you took that totally the wrong way. I'm not saying that they would turn you away, but they also don't just turn a total stranger loose with a bunch of rescues in a kennel either! At this point, you just need to find a rescue in your area, and contact them with your info and what you would be interested in. If there is not a Doberman rescue in your area, you can always do some volunteer work for a regular shelter - I did that in College.......walked dogs at the local SPCA.
