Very Large Ham Bone?

1175 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Patches Mom
I bought a very large Ham Bone from Animal Health where I buy my dog food.It was in a freezer where they have the pre-packaged raw foods made Praire I think.Should I give it too Buddy in his crate sorta scared to give it to him in the back yard. I would have to find it every time I let Patches out scared Buddy would really hurt her if she tried to get the bone which she would.Buddy 87# vs Patches 14#.
Do you let them have the bone for as long as they want or let them have it a while then take it and put it back in the freezer. Never fed any thing raw before thought if I gave them a bone once in awhile would keep their teeth nice and clean hope my questions do not sound too stupid.

For sure I would keep them separate if you think buddy will fight over it. Put him in the backyard or his crate. Get Patches a bone for herself, just a smaller one. Once Petey gets a bone....he usually chews on it until he is done. If he isn't in the mood, he will try and "bury" it some where in the house...like under my pillow!!! I usually buy smaller bones and Petey finishes them, so I never refreeze, maybe someone else can help you on that one.

If Buddy likes the hambone, there won't be any left to put back in the freezer. Let him have it and leave it alone (i.e., don't take it away).
