The topic was suggested by Alwayshadapets. Due to a subjects that was discussed recently. What would you do?

  • If for some reason you and your family household are unable to care for your Doberman, what do you plan to ensure they are cared for? (Could be due to finances, illness, or other circumstances).
  • In emergency situations, where you have to be away from your Doberman for many days or weeks, who will take care of your Doberman if your immediate family members are not around

I am fortunate that my family knows how much my animals mean to me. I would go broke caring for them. That means putting them before my needs. If for some reason I am not able to care for them anymore, my family would take them in. That way they would still be with people that they know and I would still be able to see them.

In situations that I have to leave them, someone in my family usually watches them for me. Rarely is there someone not available to do this for me. If they were not available, my vet kennels pretty quickly. That is where they would go second choice. I have only had to use them a few times because no one was available. I count my blessings.
I have 4 grown children. My daughter would take the dogs. The cats would be spread around.
Additional money has been set aside to provide for their care.
My mothers` neighbor had an arrangement with Animal Sancturay (no kill facility). I believe their are places like that in all states. So one could make contact and find out what they would need and how you go about it.
You never know when something strikes and than who gets your beloved pets. Food for thought I think.
My mum would take these two if anything happened to me or Gerry, and I know they would settle there as her house is like a second home to them anyway. And she'd spoil them like we do too!

  • In emergency situations, where you have to be away from your Doberman for many days or weeks, who will take care of your Doberman if your immediate family members are not around. I have a lady who cleans my house and just loves my dogs. She does not work, lives alone and is happy to house/dog sit for me at any notice....I am very lucky. Harley does not cope well at boarding kennels, we tried it twice and he cried the whole time according to the kennel assistant.
If something happens to me, both my dad and mom have Mensa's breeder's number. She's a good breeder and will take care of Mensa if I can't.

Seeing how my mom and dad haven't been in the same room for 30 years now, I'm pretty sure at least one of them will survive whatever picks me off.
IF any thing should happen to me, my sister and her husband would take care of Orson & Pheobe (our bordie collie mix), they live in Arkansas out in the boonies so they would have akers to run and two chocolate labs to play with.
My husband is kind of like the nutty professor........he is super smart, but no short term memory to remember his own Dr. appointments......let alone the dogs!
I have to give this some serious thought. Family is out, unfortunately. Good friends in Toronto who have a fenced in yard and who are looking to get a larger breed. I guess in a pinch I would leave Java boarding w/ vet - one used to have a Dobe and would consider bringing her home at night. Worst case would be Java's breeder - she would find her a loving home with a fellow Dobe lover if she couldn't take her.
Chris and I have discussed it in the past. We live in Florida so hurricanes are a big thing here. If we ever had to evacuate we would most certainly take our babies with us. We have 2 SUV's to ensure ample room for long trips.I think that if a financial situation arose that would not allow me to care for the dogs then me and the hubby would have to go and get second jobs. We are not going to give them up that easily.
There's a waiting list to take Tucker if anything ever happened to me, but my Mom would probably be the winner LOL

I also have a former roomate who adores the mutt and all the rest of the critters here (we breed guinea pigs for show...by the end of this month there will be 25 of them in the house LOL and 2 rabbits, 4 birds and 3 cats) She's stayed here in an emergency before without a problem.
My critters are all listed in my will too...they will be cared for if something happens to me
I have a waiting list for my boxer Piper (my grandma would probably win). Rommel and Ziris would be left with my parents. They know how much they mean to me, and would never give them up if something happened to me. We also live in a hurricane area. I have collapsible crates, and I always keep a "hurricane bag" for the dogs. They are all microchipped, and registered with me, and with my moms address in Texas (which is where I would go), in case we are unable to be reached due to weather related circumstances.
Buddy would go back to his breeder in the contract if I'm unable to care for him.Patches would most likely go to my son & daughter in law. Gizmo most likely would be put to sleep at 14 with health problems and not eating issues I sure it is around the corner anyway. She would drive people crazy she goes around & around in circles and stands and stares at you.
Patches Mom
both of my dogs are co-owned by their breeders and that is where they would go if I or my family could no longer take care of them. In an emergency, Louise's breeder has a small boarding kennel and that is where they would go.

I have friends in both my Doberman club and in rescue that can take them in a pinch and get them where they need to go. When I shattered my foot in the show ring 3 years ago and had to leave in an ambulance, a friend grabbed Velma and later brought her to my house.

In addition, both of my dogs are chipped and my secondary emergency contact is each dogs breeder.
Yeah I have to say, as one post before, we would go broke to take care of them if needed. They are my family as well....and if we could no longer care for them for whatever reason...my mom would take them, shes the one who taught me how to care and love for animals in the first place, so i know she would give them the love/support they needed.

In an emergency....well once they get out here...I would prob. just call Tracy up!!lol
Good question -
If I was still alive, I think both my family and friends would work to help me care for any animal the best I can - I could board them at work, I could spread them out among friends (actually, the cats would probably be easier to place temporarily than Rah, if you can believe that!). All my animals are microchipped (though this reminds me, I need to change their registration addresses!).

If something ever happened to me and I died, I have a contingency in my will for my best friend to care for them all, and a fairly large sum of money from my estate to go to her to help her pay for them.

LOL I was thinking about that this morning. How fun it would be to watch 2 Dobes, a Min Pin and a Chihuahua running in our field together :)
Hubby and I both talk about this a lot.

If it is because of money I know his family and my family would give us money to take care of Gracie. If it is something else like and illness then Hubby's mom would get her. She is the only one that can support her the way we want her to be supported.

If hubby and I were to die then we have decided that there better be popcorn in heaven. He and I would sit on a cloud and watch a good ole' family fued. My brother wants Gracie and hubby's whole family wants her. My mom would take my cats but I think Gracie would end up with hubby's older brother. I think if it is a long term thing he or my brother would be able to take care of her better.

They know how to handle large dominate dogs and will stop and nothing to make sure they are cared for.
I'm sure if I died one of the many people who love byron would come get him-I would really hope anyway! I would hope my mom would jsut keep him here because this is were he has always been.

If I was still alive and had to give him up I really have no clue-I think I would literally die before I could give him up. I'd rather him live in a car with me than with someone I'm not 100% sure he's happy with.

there is actually a person on some other forums I go to(and on petfinders to if anyone goes there) who apparently got hit on a horse by a car and has been in a coma since christmas. Turns out someone went to try to get her dog and it got loose and now its missing. I keep thinking how horrible for her and to add on top of it her dog is gone now to:(
Petey would go to live with my sister who has two female dogs and lives on 7 acres in Maine.
