So what is your successful diet plan.........I'm trying to get motivated to diet. So hard to do when you've got kids that want snacks, and a husband who wants a "real" meal at night.

To tell you the truth, im not dieting at all. I cant stick to diets and always end up gaining it back. I eat only things i like, but healthy food. For stuff like salad dressing, mayo and sauces, i buy low or no-fat varieties. I eat lean meats, although my fav meats aer tuna and chicken breasts, so that isnt anything i had to change. I eat whole wheat breads(always have) and pasta's. Basically what i did was i logged everything i ate for a week to find out my caloric intake. i added up the total calories from all 7 days, then divided by 7 to give me an average. Once i got that, i dropped my daily intake by 500 caliries(reccomended) and i started elarnign about what exactly makes up calries.

1 gram of protien = 4 calroies
1 gram of carb = 4 calories
1 gram of fat = a WHOPPING 9 calries

Keep in mind that there are good fats and bad fats. Saturated and trans fats are bad. they are the cause of heart problems, so stay away from those. I hear a lot about low carb diets(atkins), but its so unhealthy according to some specialists. it messes with your liver from what ive been told. I try and get most of my carbs from whole grains and veggies. try and stay away from refined sugars; pop, candy, ect. I drink a TON of water, probably 8-10 500ml bottles a day, as well as skim milk. I didnt stop eating unhealthy cold turkey and i still snack on unhealthy foods once in a while because its unrealistic to think i can just quit. that leads to failure. I just moderate what im taking in. Instead of eating 5-6 cookies, i eat 1.

I just dropped my calories another 500, and now i am at a normal caloric intake for a healthy male my age. I also added in exercise; running, pushups and situps. This should allow me to reach my goal.

Here is a before and after of me.

TomandKing is dead on

What is really important is your portion size. Instead os 2-3 big meals you break it down to 5-6 meals but a lot smaller portion ( The size of your fist) this way your system is always going.

Oh yes, forgot to mention that. probably the best thing i did for myself. I always feel full which leads to less overeating.
