Titus needs your prayers

My boy has had a rough week and it has gotten worse. The swelling that Titus had last week from his "correction" from Jada is almost gone. He had a seizure on Monday and two on Tuesday so we called out vet to let him know and to also advise on what had happened out the weekend. The vet decided to add Potassium Bromide to his seizure regiment and wanted to continue antibotics for his facial infection to make sure that it did not come back but prescribed SMZ. Started both new meds on Thursday and by Friday he was not feeling too well. We thought that he just needed an adjustment time to his new seizure meds. Come home Friday and he was vomited liquid all over the place. He wont eat and we have a hard time to get him to drink anything. Saturday morning we take him to our vet and his temp is 104.6. :emo10:

The vet keeps him about 4 hours and gives him IV fluids and some other antibotics. The vet said that it didn't appear to be an infection but he could be having a reaction to theSMZ. We get home and about an hour later he vomits again. He was very restless and VERY whiny all day and all night. We gave him a sedative hoping that a good nights rest would help.
This morning he is unresponsive and will not get out of bed. We gave him a little bit of time thinking that maybe it was just the sedative and by 10 am he still has not improved. Off to the E-Vet. He had a temp of 104.1 and they immediatley put him on IV fluids. He has a pink discharge from his nasal cavity and his liver is enlarged and pushing on his lungs making his breathing a little difficult. His platelets are low and his white blood count is slighty low. He has improved since this morning however the vet says he is not out of the woods.

I know it seems like lately all I do is post the bad things that have happened to my T and he has had a rough couple of months but I really need all the Dober prayers that I can get. My husband and I are staying positive because we know that he is fighting with all his might. I thank you all for all your positive words in the past and hope that you can say an extra prayer for my red boy.

Christine

I hope things go well with Titus.

Please, in the future - let your vet know dobermans should NOT be given sulfa drugs, including SMZ. They are known to have reactions to these drugs.

I hope he pulls through - he is very lucky to have such dedicated and wonderful owners, and people that care about him so much.

Thanks everyone. Talked to the E-Vet just a bit ago and Titus seems to be improving. He is recommending that we take him to an internal specialist for further tests as they can only do so much at the e-vet. They have a specialist right next door so we are probably going to just transfer Titus over there in the morning as all animals must be picked up from the e-vet by 8:00 am. He is certainly fighting and as long as he fights to get better we will certainly do what it takes to make sure that he does.

Alwayshadpets: We are not far from University of Florida in Gainesville. Things have been so hectic this week I totally forgot about them. They are only about 1 hour and a half away and that is certainly another option.

Thanks again to everyone. There are just so many kind hearts on this board and it certainly helps in times like this.
