The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Mr. Bojangles

Sammy Davis Jr - Mr. Bojangles (Live in Germany 1985)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fju4UajL7g

Lyrics
I knew a man, Bojangles and he danced for you
In worn out shoes
Silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants
The old soft shoe
He jumped so high
He jumped so high
Then he'd lightly touch down
I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was
Down and out
He looked to me to be the eyes of age
As he spoke right out
He talked of life
He talked of life
He laughed, clicked his heels and stepped
He said his name, Bojangles and he danced a lick
Across the cell
He grabbed his pants, a better stance
Oh, he jumped so high
Then he clicked his heels
He let go a laugh
He let go a laugh
Pushed back his clothes all around
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Dance
He danced for those in minstrel shows and county fairs
Throughout the south
He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him
Traveled about
The dog up and died
He up and died
After twenty years he still grieves
He said I dance now at every chance in honky tonks
For drinks and tips
But most the time I spend behind these county bars
He said I drinks a bit
He shook his head
And as he shook his head
I heard someone ask him please
Please
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Dance

Beau--no one can be all bad if their favorite song is Mister BoJangles. It's maybe not my absolute favorite but it's definitely up there in the top ten. Thanks for the words Beau...if I don't see them every so often I forget bits ad pieces and my signing is bad enough without humming through about half of the song...

Love U to AuntBug - come a long way, since my or our (wink-wink) early days LOL. :x

----------------------------------------------

Chicken Hawks - Lets build a Top10 Song List, individually...and video link each pick.

PS - Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle I listened to on the radio, with renewed interest...once BabyBear was born.
- as a Father, Larry told himself...
- "I was gonna be the best dad possible, and give our son...an easier life, we never had"
- starting with Love & respect, Fun together, no secrets & easy communication, give him street smarts, and critical thinking
- so his adult life, could be full of excitement, joy & self-made opportunity

^ The song reminded this Larry, not gonna be the "not today Dad" with no time to share with our only child.

And Tears In Heaven became most precious, once I became a parent...have to protect, little Andrew through his Life, that is my J-O-B responsibly.

Lyrics

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you, dad"
"You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when"
But we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw, I said, not today
I got a lot to do, he said, that's okay
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed
It said, I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know…

Lyrics

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

When Beau was 16, this Canadian band performed at a High School, 45 minutes away // after Larry got the 8 track tape, I very much regretted, not seeing them Live.

Edward Bear was a Toronto-based Canadian pop-rock group. The band is best known for its chart-topping single, "Last Song," and "Close Your Eyes," used as the signing-off song for Delilah's radio show.

The Edward Bear Revue, later Edward Bear, was formed in 1966 by singer and percussionist Larry Evoy and bassist Craig Hemming. The name is derived from A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh, whose "proper" name is Edward Bear.[1] At first the band had a bluesy, rock sound; at one point they opened for Led Zeppelin.[2][3]

The band signed with Capitol Records in 1969 with a lineup of Evoy, guitarist/vocalist Danny Marks and keyboardist/vocalist Paul Weldon.[1] Their sound moved toward blues and pop.[2] They released an album, Bearings that year.[4] Their single, "You, Me and Mexico", was a Top 5 hit in Canada and charted well in the United States.[5][6] Follow-up songs, "You Can't Deny It" [7]and "Spirit Song" did not prove popular. Marks left the band the following year and was succeeded by guitarist/vocalist Roger Ellis.[6]

The band recorded several albums; the songs were mainly written by the band members. There were several chart successes in the early 1970s, including "Fly Across the Sea" and "Masquerade".[6] The band had its biggest hit in 1972, when "Last Song" charted at #1 in Canada and peaked at #3 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[8] It was awarded a gold disc in March 1973 for selling over one million copies by the Recording Industry Association of America.[8] "Close Your Eyes" was a Top 5 hit in Canada and also made the charts in the United States.[9][10]

Last Song
Edward Bear

Did you know I go to sleep and
Leave the lights on
Hoping you'd come by and know
That I was home and still awake
But two years go by and still
My light's on
This is hard for me to say
But this is all that I can take

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last time that I'll tell you
Just how much I really care
This is the last song I'll ever sing for you
You'll come looking for the light
And it won't be there
But I love you
Oh yes I do
Yes I do

All the times that I spent waiting
Wondering where you are
Always knew the time would come
When I would start to wonder why
Now the time is here
I don't know where you are
So I'll write you one more song
But it's the last time that I'll ever try

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the…

Close Your Eyes
Edward Bear

I dreamed she came back home last night
Asked her where she'd been
She said I've been around the world and
It almost did me in
She said I hope you didn't wait too long
I have no sense of time
I see you've written one Last Song
And I realized it's mine
Think of all the times we talked
Sing a nursery rhyme

Close your eyes
I'm right beside you
Run for miles you know I'll find you
Cause it's all the same
Change your lovers
Change your name
If you need a friend
Close your eyes
I'm back again

She really came back home last night
Seemed as if she'd changed
Said that she go back to school
And try things once again
But you know it didn't take too long
Till she lost her way
And all the reason in the world could see
She couldn't stay
As I…

OK I will send you a PM so you can send me some hot truck pics !

Oh yeah...help me pick out a dudish truck song to go along with de chevy show !!!!!

Does YKW want to partake in this chevy shoo........?

Who else has Chevy trucks ?
That was a dumb question, Cuz.

Is there really anything else other than GM? I haven't switched in 37 years, except for a couple of freebies. I had two Ford Rangers back in the day. I didn't hate them.

"de chevy" needs to be capitalized.

Show some respect, Cuz.

From the first time I held our daughter in my arms, this song meant a lot to me.

Especially this part:
Oh with all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning
And butterfly kisses at night

Now she's 25, and out on her own, and I don't see her as much as I'd like to but I understand, she has to have her own life...

This is my all-time favorite song in the world. Especially starting at the 5 minute mark, when David Gilmour plays what IMHO is one of the best guitar solos, ever.

Sorry Frank! Didn't mean to steal your thunder.

I was in truck mode.

Thanks for the sweet song and story to go with it.

BTW

No dead chickens today!

:grin2:
No problems, Denny. Today's been a melancholy day...I read Lannie's follow-up reply about her girl, Zipper, and it made me sad and I couldn't shake the feeling all day. I came home and gave Mocha an extra big hug. Sometimes, I think a little too much, is all.

Nothing wrong with that!

I was traumatized by Ma's passing. I mistook which bobble head lost their tail feathers.

It was actually Di!

:2surprise:

Sorry Rock Star, hopefully you might have just been molting.

I think everyone is going to be okay. I think the heat got to Ma.
