Ok, I forgot the ball, so Nubis had to make do with snowballs, He is too smart, he didnt like after awhile because by the time, he got to me, it was melted in his mouth.
I picked the whitest snow, I could found, no yellow stuff for my guy. lol.

I just discovered this tennis court, it doesnt lock but i improvised and used his leash,(good ole army training at its best)

On a warmer note, he turned 6 months ago, 2 days ago.

I had to step up, his walk lengths, fetch, frisbee and mini training sessions, as puberty is kicking in and he was starting to get a teen attitude, with listening off leash within the house. Once I seen, I was getting frustrated, I had to start fixing it.

Thanks.
Noooo, no yellow snow for this guy, but it does mix well with London Dock Rum. When I was a young sapper, I ran out of coke once, and ate snow and chased it with the rum... hahaha It wasnt really fun tasting but i sure got drunk. hahah.....
Yeah, im liking his ears, as I can read them well with his moods, which is really good. They are not perfect, as it has a slight tip bend, but it my gift to the little guy, as he is no longer a posted goofy looking puppy. LOL

Love it! This is what I want to be able to do with Diesel but I don't think he's old enough yet.
His old enuf, just be careful, where you take him. I start walking with my pups right from the get go, as they are very inclined to stick with you and you can teach them the come command pretty quick.

What do you mean you start walking with them? How did you teach come? I am having the hardest time with that also do you do any off leash walking with Nubis? I thought the hard concrete wasnt good for really young pups which is why we haven't gone to a tennis court yet but I've been dying to take him. He loves to run.

Before, Nubis got his second set of shots, I would carry him to this secluded wooded area, with a field nearby and we would walk around there, with him dragging his leash. We would run around like little kids, cuz i knew he couldnt outrun me, so i would let him go, then using my excited my voice, i would run slightly away and call come, in an excited way, and he would simply run towards me.
I will do off leash walking with him in the backyard, but he just paces along and usually gets distracted using branches for dental floss. So its not worth it. I would never let him go unleash at the moment, unless it was an outside enclosed area, cuz i dont trust his recall, if he really wants to check something out.
I didnt really let Nubis, run around too much in the tennis court, just giving him freedom outside his yard, which he liked when i released him and said go nuts.... he did, he torqued around like an escaped convict.
Another trick, which i learned with my first dobe from a friend, get them accustomed to some treats in a can, so when you shake it, he knows. This trick might save your dogs life on a recall.....
I was at work years ago, and my ex called, saying the stupid contracters left the yard gate open and Kaiser got out. I panicked and drove him, at Mach 10. She couldnt get him and he was just enjoying running at warp speeds on the sidewalk. I initially called him and he ignored it, cuz he thought it was a big ole game. I quickly remembered the can, and grabbed it and shook it, once no vehicles were around, he came back.
Now I failed that day too, cuz I was so scared for him, i freaked all over his butt verbally in a down stay. Bad mistake. He did exactly what i wanted, with the can, that was a major reward and I failed to see that.
Even now, with Nubis if I let him out at night to pee, i cannot see him, so when he decides to wander, cuz he has to do his rounds checking out if anything has changed. I will call him back, as he has relieved himself, sometimes he comes right back from the dark yard and sometimes not. after 2 verbal tries, if no joy, ill grab the can, and he is back in no time. with LOTS of praise for returning.
I would use the can as a distraction as some people mention. I will use it as a life line for basically a instant return.

I start walking with my pup as soon as I get them also. On leash in the backyard, frontyard and then we start around the block. To teach the come command your dog has to be away from you then call to you. You can send away by teaching to use a target. Put a treat on a target away from you, send the dog to it and then call him back. I start this on leash, quickly they will learn the game and you can do it offleash. (of course in a secure area) No matter if you are upset, they didnt come right away, or whatever when they come they should always be greeted with a party! Also dont call your dog to come unless you know he is coming or can enforce it. Other than that go get your dog.

Great pics! He is getting to be such a big boy! Very handsome!

Now I get what people mean about walking right away. I did that with Diesel now we can actually go for walks as opposed to just standing in one area outside. Do you use a word when you send them away from you?

I'll let Nubis have his thread back! Sorry :)

Dobie running & goofing around on a tennis court IMO is perfectly OK and controlled fun, at any pups age.
- not like the adult is jogging (long distance) or making the puppy keep up to a mountain bike (on-or-off road)
I would never think (for a second), there would be a growth plate problem later, as the young dog...can pace him/her-self when ever.
- no forced exercise, is being smart / nothing more than one should do, early on
