Lucan just completed his "Headstart" program with the other puppies and was the most well behaved and eager to learn in the class. However all of the other puppies socialized during play time and even by the end of the classes he still tried to bite any puppy that would try to sniff him. :( He was interested in them but if they turned to show interest in him, he growled and snapped. They suggested not putting him in that situation. How is he supposed to learn to interact with other dogs if he's not exposed to them?? But how do I do this without making him even more fearful. He had a bad experience at 9 weeks with an older dog that was a bit rough with him, now at 16 weeks I guess he has not forgotten. We've signed him for "Grade 1", hopefully with time he will become more sure of himself.

Keep going, I think the only way he will get over the past is for you to invole him in puppy interaction.
When class is done and everyone is talking and visiting stay just for ten minutes then work on upping the time gradualy so he is getting time but not overwhelming. I would do a quicik right on time soft correction, verbal leave it, no bark, have a squeaky toy or treat to praise and carry on talking etc. I think some trainers need to be reminded classes are not just for sit and stay.

Honestly....Petey was totally terrified of other dogs for about 6 weeks(from about 16 weeks until about 22 weeks), now when you see my boy at almost 7 months old, with "his pack" you would never know it! I just kept taking him to class and walking him at the park near my home that is filled with dogs, every single day. Now he LOVES his crew. He is still the annoying puppy, but they all tolerate him completely.

Just keep at it.
