Before I could get my sock away from my 7month old dobe he swallowed it, what are the chances of this passing? This was last night and today he seems fine, ate his food and kept it down, did go both number 1 and 2 outside however still no sock. How long will it take for him to pass it? What are the signs that he may not pass it? I appreciate all your help and support

He'll quit or slow down eating. If you can moniyer him any signs of not feeling good and you have'nt seen the sock would mean danger. I would think any time today you would see it. Maybe tomorrow. just keep monitering him.Be ready to call your vet.

I agree with Ann. My dobe gal ate a pair of children's underpants and the outcome was blocked bowels. Pooped at first because that was already digested food the panties were behind that and wouldn't let anything else pass except for some bowel liquid juices, same as with people. Ditto keep a close eye, you have to see the sock are you sure 100%. Just to let you know it cost me over $800.00 to remove blockage if not my dobe would have died, I don't want to scare you that is not my intention, only to reaffirm the seriousness of this incident. Good luck.

You can feed him some vaseline to help ease it through. I know it sounds gross but it's fine. Put some on a biscuit or between 2 biscuits. Give a couple of times a day. You could also use hairball medicine meant for cats. Tonic lax? I think that's one of them.

My Cody ate 3 kids socks when he was a pup. threw one up, pooped out the second and the 3rd was surgically removed. He got very sick Very quickly. you can always get a barium xray if you want to be sure. by the time Cody acted sick, he needed emergency surgery. He was also pretty sick for several days after and then took about a month to recover completely.

As I recall the bill was about the same as waitings. a small price to pay to keep a pup alive.

I suggest giving the vet a call ASAP

How common is this? Guinness plays with socks all the time, mostly tug of war type games. He has never shown any signs that he wants to eat it though. Mostly just wants to throw it around...

It's pretty common for Dobermans to eat different non edible things. I had a 10 month old obstruct on the tape from a cassette tape years ago. Fortunately he lived, but he had to have his intestines cut in 9 different places to get all the tape out. He was a pretty sick pup for awhile.

Personally, I would use a more appropriate toy, such as one of those ropes to play tug of war.

My wife and I both saw him eat it and I know for a fact he did not throw it up...so who knows, we are keeping our fingers crossed. Thanks for all the help!!!

when cody was little cleaning up the back yard was almost like a treasure hunt. One time he ate all the fuzz off a tennis ball and his poop was tennis ball green. LOL. the kids thought it was radioactive and wouln't touch it. Gave us quite a scare till we found the naked ball.

Sorry about the delay, however everything seems to be fine!!! My wife and I have been watching Jack like a hawk and are very confused at this point. Here is what we know:

1. Jack did in fact eat the sock
2. Jack did not throw the sock up
3. Jack is still very active, eating well and unaffected by the whole experience
4. Jack is going number 2 very regular
5. Still no sock!!!!

Anyway not sure where it went, but this is all we do know for a fact. I have been in contact with my vet and they are telling me as long as he is acting well and passing things through like his food and the many clumps of grass he likes to inhale..haha then no reason to worry. Any way it could of dissolved in his stomach?

Well great news!!!! The missing sock has been found. Last night at obedience class Jack decided to throw up and out came the sock, I could not believe it, it has been over a week and it was in his stomach the whole time. I am just glad it had a happy ending. Thanks again for all of your help and support.
