Skin Irritation***UPDATED***

Well my male Dobe King has a pretty serious skin irritation. We have ruled out mite/parasites, we have ruled out food allergies, we have ruled out emphysema, so we are doing some blood work in 4 days to see if it is an environmental allergy. Anyone else going through this with their animal(any type)?
Here are some pics

have you changed his diet.?...does he drink tape water? does he get any oil supplements? these are all questions your doc wont ask... tape water can cause skin allergies and other health problems... did you do food tests or what?

Is your dog getting enough Omega 3,6, and 9 fatty acids... this is a must for skin and cells... if your dog isnt getting enough of these then the cells will become impermiable and well that can cause the immune system to fail...

But to much Omega 6 can cause Cancer or other things so becareful and make sure that you find an oil with all of them in there.... ask a local holistic store vendor if they have any oils that will cover all that... try a filter on your tap... and possible go to a RAW food diet... RAW is all natural will help your dog out tremendously...Im not saying it will help completely but it will help alittle...

Hope it helps
Awww, poor guy....... Don't know if it is of any help but my gils momma got a pretty ugly skin irratation after her pups were weaned it ended up being a mite typ infection however it was just a overabundance of the regular mites that every dog has on it's body, they just went haywire. Hormones and such the vet decided was the culprit for it.

Good luck on getting that allergy under control.... I'll be thinking about King!

:dancing_b King get better king get better!!! :dancing_b
Emphysema is a lung disease. I think you meant to say eczema. I would have a vet look at it, possibly a form of mange. They can also do a blood workup to see if something is lacking in his system.

YEah, my bad. We have tested for mange already and that has been ruled out.

Once we get the blood tests on on wednesday, the results should be back winthin a week so i should know whats wrong then. I am going to start giving king Filtered water though. Im not too happy with our tap water.
So, i just got back from the local grocery store with two large jugs of purified water. Who knows, maybe that will help. Either way, im sure it is better for him.
:duh_6b: Man oh man do we love our dogs or what? Purified water! He he hehehehehe! Could you imagine 50 years ago, telling someone that! We'd probably be institutionalized!!!!

SOMETIMES YOU FEEL LIKE A NUT, SOMETIMES YOU DON'T, DOBES ARE NUTS, AND mounds don't - OKAY SO I CAN"T MAKE STUFF UP!!!!!
Tom,

Just got back from the vet with Chi who suggested something as simple as benadryl (going back in a few weeks for more puppy shots and to assess the skin situation). I know it's insane to ask but have you tried it?
Yep, we have tried Benadryl. King didnt take to it too well. he stopped eating and wasnt very active. Now we have him on Chlor-tripolon. There are two versions. One is for sinus allergies, and one is for itchy skin. We tried the general allergy one, didnt work, but we just switched to the itchy skin version(which is also cheaper). Ill let you know how that work in a couple days. thanks for the heads up though.
Ok, well its been 3 days and the Chlor-tripolon works GREAT. the rash on his ear is GONE and his neck is starting to clear up. He is scratching a lot less so hopefully we can get that cone off his head soon.
however if we all dont want to buy that much purified water... then you can get a brita water filter that will work just as well as the other... plus much more inexpensive... try that also :D
it only costs $2.99 CDN to ful up a 30L jug which is much cheaper than buying the brita and then replacing the filter.
if i was you tom and king i would rub olive oil on him wear his rash is poor baby or ask your vet to whats the best for him. i lget my dobe drink the bottle water 5gals i get spring water it's so much better water for them i never drink the tap water yeck..
good luck
sheila.
good.... not tap water...

and tap water is bad... chlorine... is horrible...
good point King. if you can do that go for it... i wish i could get water that cheap LOL... crap... i pay like 10 bucks for a couple gal...hehehe way to go
Ok, so i got a FULL blood panel done today. It cost me $292. I should have the results in 2-3 weeks. I sure hope this solves the problem. I cant stand to see him like this. it makes me so sad. Last night he was whimpering while trying to itch his face on the couch. So i just scratched him for about an hour.
Oh Poor Baby King I Feel Sorry For Him You Should Rub Coconutoil On Him It Might Work So He Dont Itch Ask Your Vet About It. Not The Tanning Kind The Cooking Kind Ok I Will Pray For Him He Is So Cute :) Dobes Hug's
Sheila,
Ok, so here is the skinny on kings problem.
He isnt itchy anymore YAY :dancing_b
We have him on some meds for the time being, and we have an appointment to start the desensitization therapy on tuesday. Best of all, he doesnt have to wear a cone anymore, his hair is growing back, i dont have to bathe him every 3rd day anymore because he smelled so bad, and there are no more scabs. King is just generally an happier dog, which im wondering if that had something to do with his agressiveness.
im bet it had some links to his aggressivness.. i know what im like when im feeling under the weather...like a bear with a sore head! Poor guy atleast things are looking up :D

good luck with the therapy :)
