Shipping Puppy

Someone has told me of companies shipping puppies. Does anyone know anything about this? Like if I bought a puppy in another state and had it shipped to me? Just heard of this option, but not sure about the trustworthiness.

I'm not sure what you're asking about here. It's not unusual at all for puppies to be shipped via air from the breeder to the new owners.

Are you talking about those companies that transport puppies in vans, via the highways? Personally, I think there's a lot less stress on the puppy to put it on a plane and have it in the new home in a matter of a few hours.
I guess that is what I am talking about, just heard about it and don't know anything about it at all.
I understand airlines (delta) will not ship in summer.

Most of the airlines have temperature embargoes for live cargo when it's really hot or really cold at either end of the journey. Delta *will* ship in summer, it's just it can't be over 85 degrees for most breeds-sometimes you can work around that by shipping at night or early in the morning. This is a good link that will give you the pet shipping policies for most of the major carriers. http://www.petflight.com/airlines/

I do know of a few people who have brought dobe pups home by flying out to pick them up themselves, and then carrying them in the cabin-they have to be under a certain size and weight to be able to do that, tho.

I think the pup will be too big to fly in cabin like that. Weight 15# carrier size 17x12.3x8 is what they said. The temperature at nite I'm not to sure about. Will have to check.
Thanks for the petfilight site.

In vans, via the highways? No, not much. I don't like the sounds of it, tho...if I were a breeder, I think I'd be pretty reluctant to allow one of my puppies to be shipped like that.

I'm very leary too, that is why I'm trying to find out about it. Thought maybe someone on here might know.
I don't think I'd ever ship one ground, the poor puppy would be in a crate forever! Plus I don't want some stranger getting my puppy out to potty (if they even do that). Better off getting them there on a quick flight and having it over with in my opinion.
I don't "like" shipping puppies, but have never had any problem doing so, puppy has always arrived happy and clean and come out wagging their tail.

These are my feelings exactly. I was just looking at a ground transportation website, it said the average travel time was 4-5 days, but it could be up to 10 days..NO WAY would I have ever allowed one of my puppies to go through that, even for the 4-5 day average.
All I found on the internet was some deal where carriers apparently put in bids to pick up and deliver. Somebody in Ga ships puppies that way. But it was an overnite deal. From south GA to north VA.
Guess I've found out enough. Thanks for the help.
I'm on the site you gave me Murryedobe. Found the "Petflight Incident Map", so I reading about all the dead pets.

How old will the puppy be? I was able to fly with a puppy in the cabin on several different occasions without issue.
I'm hoping they will keep the puppy till the stitches come out and I can observe the first taping. So say 10 days or so past the crop at 8 wks unless they trim earlier. I would love to be able to fly with him, but think he will probably weigh over 15# at that age.
They may not want to keep him anyway. It has just been so long since I have taped ears. I remember how, but would feel a lot better watching the first taping and then I would be set.
