She's a "woman"

Just found little drops of blood -- my little puppy has started her first heat at almost 9 mos old.
Any tips for FiFi and me?

Cholorphyll tablets help keep the smell down.
Cover your furniture with wash and wear blankets for any oopsys. Washing machine cheaper than a new couch. Some females the odour is quite strong.
Lock up Lock up Lock up. Them boys will be after your baby if you just have to be so careful of course she may want to meet up with the boys too at some point. Heard of one person putting there dog in the car taking her away from the house to do her business kept the smell down at their house??

Britches are hard to find that fit. We used hubbys and my undies (sacrificial offerings) Hubbys were the best (reverse them for that little nub) Used tape to make waist band tighter after they were on.(also baby diaper pin--did not leave this on her unattended)
Good Luck. Oh we did not have any males come around. I guess we were lucky. We took her out on a leash to potty and than back inside. (It was 31 days for us unusually long)
I guess I got lucky with *******, she did not bleed much at all. I used the the panties made by Daba Doo with the velcro straps they worked well. But there was so little blood that I really did not have to use them. And like waiting said cover your furniture and anything else that she lay's on. ******* was very good at cleaning herself so that helped.
i sewed some of my panties for duchess to fit her like a gem! lol. and we put a maxi pad in them all the time. However she does have that doggie door...so we had to close that and take her out ourselfs so we could take the undies off...its not too cool when the doggy door is available...and she hops out and takes a poop in her undies! hahahaa ewwwww!
Thank you all. So far so good, but we're only one day into it. Seems like the "panties" we bought don't fit very well, so I'll have to experiment. Not much blood so far.
I don't think any of the bitch britches you buy at stores work. I only buy them from dog show vendors.

Yeah, I've always found the pet store britches pretty worthless.

The best ones I've found are made by Sunnyhill Designs-they're created by doberman people and you can see the difference in the fit. They don't have a website, but you can reach them via phone or email:

You're awesome, thanks for that info. Cher just had her first season a few months ago, but I need to buy some for whenever she decides to go in again. I only have whippet ones here.

They also make wonderful braided collars and leashes, and the coolest prong collars of all. The prongs have leather braided through the links as an added safety feature. Not only do they look good, it keeps them from coming apart, which prong collars do now and then.

Razzle is wearing a very snazzy pair of Sunnyhill britches today...luckily I'm leaving town tomorrow and she's going to a kennel along with the other dogs, so I get to escape most of this season. She's a 4 monther-what a PITA!!!!
Thanks Murreydobe, I just sent them an email. Lucky you that you get to miss most of the beautiful Razzle's season. Every 4 months though.....ugh. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for faaaar apart seasons for Cher. We'll have to wait and see.

All of my dobe bitches prior to this went in about every 7-8 months, which you can live with. THIS is just terrible. Complicating it is Mr. Rush *does not* believe he's neutered, and if given the opportunity, he WILL tie with her. Luckily he's only bad for the actual 3 days she's fertile-if I were getting ready to breed her, he'd be a great barometer about when to get it done. But for those three days, he's a total walking hormone, worse than many intact males I've known. So I'm as happy as I can be about not having to deal with it this time..she's at day 7 right now, and will be out by the time I get home. I feel sorry for the boy dogs who might be at the kennel with her, but c'est la vie.
When I was growing up we used little girl panties on our female miniature poodle. Cut a hole in the top for her tail and used a panty liner. They worked out very well. I don't remember much of a smell with her. Hope all goes well for your little woman!
