are you (gently!) screwing the posts into the ears, and are you pulling the ear taut while doing so? how are you posting? can you share a photo so we know what you are doing?

Screw the post down into the ear as much as you can, then DON'T let go of the ear (you said you were doing that already, I know)--stretch the ear up gently and stick it to your post, then run one piece of tape around the tip and post, covering the tip of the ear. Then put your bottom piece of tape down around and under the bulge at the bottom of the ear--follow the line of his skull as much as possible. A piece of tape in the middle, and you should be done. You really don't need as much tape as you're using, though if you're having trouble with the posting, I know the temptation is to keep adding more and more. But it doesn't really help adding a lot of tape to weigh the ear down.

Take a look at the section on ears in our educational archives for some info and PICTURES! on posting.

Read this thread if you haven't yet: http://www.dobermantalk.com/ear-cro...ting-directions-photo-tutorial-my-method.html

You have way too much tape on his ears, you also need to be taping closer to the base and pulling his ear out/up more. If you don't have two people it's a lot harder in my opinion. One person needs to hold the ear taunt while the other tapes.

Something that I've discovered recently is do the normal taping of an ear, wrapping the same direction of the crease, then right before you put the brace on, put a piece of tape covering the very very bottom of the post and wrap it around the opposite way of the crease so it's touching the top of the head. That has worked for us to keep posts in.

Well I am new to posting ears as you can see lol! But I use a tightly rolled up paper towel for the base with electrical tape wrapped around it. Then I wrap the adhesive tape around the electrical tape. Then I screw it in the ear as far as it can go and I try to hold his head so he will be still and try to pull his ear up straight while im holding him and try to tape it all the way from the bottom to the tip. While i'm doing that he is trying to shake his head and it falls off!

electrical tape is not a good choice...............it does not allow the ear to breath and it is too stretchy, too easy to get it wrapped too tight which may cut off the blood circulation to the tip of the ear..........not good.

can the breeder of your pup help with the tapings? if not, do they know anyone near you who can asssit you?

Hugz to your pup.

ps, there is a sticky thread with a list of people from various areas who have volunteered to help others with taping pups ears.

Yes I'm waiting till my boyfriend gets home so we can retape the one i'll tell him we are using
to much tape and not to use electrical tape. I'm gonna make the post thinner so it will go in further. You should see how violently he shakes his head, even when the vet posted his ears
he still shook his head so hard they fell out so I've been using an E collar so he cant shake his head much.

i'd also suggest using something stiffer than paper towels. maybe try the tampons instead? we had great success with that.

a little headshaking is normal till they get used to the posts in their ears.

but if posts are loose, or tape is pulling on hair or skin, tape gets wet, etc. they will continue to shake till posts are out.

I do not like the e collars on cropped pups, i believe they irritate the cropped ears even more.

I hope you can find someone experienced with the whole cropping, taping, posting proceedure to assist and teach you how to do it correctly.

It will be so much better for your pup.

Hugz to Rosco!

Paper towel? Huh?

Try using backer rod (can be found at home improvement stores) wrapped with duct tape, as stated in the link that was suggested to you. Do not make it thinner so it will go deeper, that doesn't sound good.

Look at the thread, and use that methods. Obviously your method is not working for you very well.

ETA: Also, he is most likely shaking because the posts are uncomfortable. They are most likely uncomfortable because they are flimsy and unstable and not secured in the ear properly. By posting properly he will most likely shake his head less.

you take the tampon and pull it out so it longer
push some of the cotton out the bottom not alot but some ok
then tape it up just like your doing you can use ele tape on the inside then use
the good tape on backward so it is sticky
then put it in the bottom of his ear then pull his ear up and out (dont pull ear off lol)
have a pice of good tape ready and tape the top part of his ear 1 small piece
then just tape the bottom 2 pieces of tape thats it
when the ear is longer then the tampon i use the end of one to put on the 1st so it longer

I think she is using electrical tape on the post, not the ear.
Duct tape will help make it stiffer. And backer rod is lots easier but I have used paper towels too.where do u live? Maybe someone can teach u.
