Can I use the sardines in olive oil straight out on container or do I have to rinse them off?

Thank you in advance

I only give Callie the ones in water with no added salt. I have no experience with the Olive Oil ones. I don't believe Olive Oil would be harmful, though I think it may act as a laxative..

I dont recommend giving sardines in olive oil because the type of fat OO has, oleic acid, an omega 9, competes with the DHA/EPA, omega 3 fatty acids in sardines for uptake in the body. You are going to need to rinse any canned sardines to remove salt. I just drain, then run the water in around the cracked top, drain, rinse, drain. Only takes a minute, if that long. Water packed sardines have the lowest salt content that I have seen. I did like the idea of sardines in OO till I read in Whole D og Journal about the OO and EPA/DHA not mixing well.:(

Good to know. I thought it was ok to do the Olive Oil ones. That's what I've been feeding Torque. Guess not any more!
