Hey... I've been badgered :flattered: into doing the Secret Santa again this year, and, of course, I want to do the SS Rescue Elves Christmas Care Packages again, too - so if you want to participate, see the SS thread under general Dobe stuff. lois
We started a little open group of DT members a while ago, cakked the "Rescue Elves", who are willing to help supply needed items to rescues who are struggling, and who have active, participating members on DT. Sometimes it might be items or donations for a particularly needy rescued Dobe, sometimes a rescue facility really needs blankies or towels or other supplies... it hasn't been as active lately - a lot of us are also members of DAN (Doberman Assistance Network), and have auctions and naming games, etc, to raise money. . . . . . BUT - at this time of year, there tend to be a lot of very needy Dobes in shelters, and since we do a Secret Santa gift exchange among members, it's also a great time of year to also send a package of goodies to one of our valued rescue organizations.
Members can choose to only do the personal exchange, or to participate in both. We choose about 6 or 8 worthy and well-vetted (how punny) rescue groups, and the folks who want to be Rescue Elves get assigned one of the groups to send a care package to. To those wondering if they can "just" participate in the Rescue Elves portion of Secret Santa - YES!!! We'd LOVE to have you! The rescues need all the cheer and attention they can get - and we only support very well vetted groups who are familiar to DT members, so we're sure they are safe, well-run places, and 501c3 accredited. I know that's very important to everyone.
WOW - I am SO impressed- so far, of the Secret Santa participants, 50% have signed on for the Rescue Elves... it was what I was hoping for, and I'm thrilled - hope it continues!!
Im thinking I should have put my post about the rescue elves here...I am sorry I didn't realize there were two threads....Aaaaand I have been convinced. I want to sign up. Thank you soooo much lolonurse!!!! You are my hero for doing this this year.
There aren't really 2 threads for the sign-up, Chelse - I just put this here because there are some VERY devoted rescue folks who don't have lots of time, and look here regularly, but might not look at the regular threads - this way, I can catch their attention, too, and some do want to sign up, but just haven't gone looking for the regular thread!
