So I was not having a good day... until this little red dobe pup arrived. I immediately grabbed my phone to go talk to them and get a picture. I just looked up and there she was, I was thinking, " no! thats not a doberman puppy! IS IT?!" (yes I am pythetic, and i know it so dont tell me) They were in a bit of a hurry but they could tell I was in love and were very happy to show her off. They said it's their 4th dobe(2 more at home and used to have another). 3 monthes old, her name is pheobe. I just wanted to STEAL her!!!!! I know its not a great picture, but she is adorable. They said they got her from a breeder called "smack dab doberman" in illinois. Anyone heard of them? know if they are are good, reputable? They said they were and they work and show the dogs. I would have talked to them longer but they had to go.

That's where Duchess is from :) WHAT A CUTIE!!! and your right in Illinois Bleh so that sounds right :)

Bleh, if you ever want to see plenty of doberman puppies since pheobe is a puppy right now theyre may be a puppy kindergarten class with the other litter mates or doberman toddlers moving up to obedience etc. at Smack Dab's training facility on Rt. 59 and Butterfield Rd. in warrenville I think...
we use to go there...but not anymore

LD, thats so cool you got Duchess from there too. I would assume they are a good breeder then. I looked it up online and found a site for the training academy. Thanks for the idea, maybe we'll do thats sometime.

Acooper I tried to get them to come in, either then or another time for a bath. They said they give her a bath at home, and I didnt push a nail trim cuz hers were really short and I could tell they wanted to get going. But I would've loved to take care of her. Do you take the posts down to wash? We dont get dobes in often and we never gets pups in for bathe.

Yes you take the posts down to clean the ears, let them air out and bath if necessary..........you can't get the tape wet or you are in danger of shrinkage which would cause them to be too tight plus the risk of infections.

Oh she is so cute .. but what doberman isn't... I am crazy like that too. If I see a doberman walking.. I pull over to talk to them...
That's not crazy. I have had too many to count pull over on my walks to talk to me about my dogs. At first my mom was weary of them when she would walk her beagle with us. She gets used to it now. I just laugh it off. I would do the same thing. I turn and point yelling "There is a doberman!" I don't see very many around here.

That is a cute puppy. I don't blame you for wanting to get your hands on it. That is very exciting for you.

She is a little cutie, and if Duchess is an example of their breeding then Pheobe will grow up to be a real beauty.I do the same thing with pulling over to talk to Dobe owners, and what do you think i do all day at a show ? 20mins in the O.B.ring with Tia,about the same in the show ring with Little Misch, and the rest of the day talking and fussing as many Dobies as i can!!

Ha Ha - I have not gone that far yet, but the urge is strong - LOL! I have had people pull over to ask me about my dogs. We have so many oversized Dobermans in this area because Kimbertal is local that many people have never seen a standard sized Doberman before - they are always curious!

When I run into someone with a Doberman at a local event - like a dog walk or something - we always gravitate to each other.

............ so when we go out with luna we get stares and comments all the time (especially with her ears posted).
Do you find that most people really don't even know about the ear posts?
When we would take Orson out in his posts we always got "Oh, poor little puppy, what happened....did he get hurt?" So many times I explained that they were cropped, and healed, but this is how to make them stand and if they have ever seen a dobe with standing ears this was how it was done. Most of them said they just thought the ears standing were a natural thing.

My obedience instructor has two Smack Dab bitches. OTCH Smack Dabs True Gem was invited to the AKC National Obedience trials. She is in the top 25 nationwide. Her other bitch, Always (I believe she is Smack Dabs Always Faithful) is also competing in obedience and has her CDX.

Both bitches are exceptional with plenty of drive.
