I don't have much productive to add.
Make sure you're taking the dog to someone who legitimately knows what they're doing as opposed to just any cropping vet.

To this I'd add, make sure the vet actually knows how to do a show crop, and does them often...just showing a picture to someone who hasn't a clue doesn't mean they're going to be able to recreate that look.

Some of the worst crops I've ever seen were done by people who *thought* they could do a show crop!
