I have question about future temperment/personality in *******. I was watching her yesterday in the vet's office interacting with the staff. She was really social, going up to everybody saying hello, playing, and just seemed to enjoy what was going on. I have worked hard in introducing her to all kinds of people and animals. I guess I was beeming with pride that she is so well adjusted!
I am wondering if this is just because she is young or can I assume this is what she will be like as an adult? I realize we will have to continue the socializing especially as she starts to mature but I am just curious. Any comments or suggestions would be appricated.

Sounds like she will have a great personality...youll just want to keep up with socializing...
Keeping up with socializing to me...ensures that you can continue to trust her...
instead of when she becomes full grown...starting to stop making socializing a priority...and then you may come across some things she forgot about...and alters the way she feels about them.

thats only my experience...cause once duchess was a "big" girl...we continued taking her everywhere...and letting people pet her but she is naturally a sensitive girl...and so she can be timid at times.
plus once a dobe puppy gets to be full grown...not many everyday people are begging to pet your dog haha. once and awhile youll get people that have had dobes in the past...or their friends own dobes...so they are more willing to ask to pet her lol.

she will still go up to people...but she likes the crowds of socializing better than she likes the ONE person coming up hesitatingly asking to pet her....lol...that spooks her at first....maybe just cause she knows she is with me...on the leash so her guard is higher than if she was to be off leash...

That's funny LapDog, when people see her coming they say oh, it's o.k. she's a puppy! For sure when she get's older people will be more hesistant to pat her.

Gaston has been socialized since he was 8-12 weeks old. He has no problem with strange people petting him once I tell them and him that it's ok. He is not overly freindly to strangers but rather aloof. Now it's a different story to people he knows he turns into a giant wiggle butt!!!!!and loves the attention.

Sorry for the delay, had to run out and feed my horses. He was friendly and goofy in a puppy kind of way at that age. I'll have to admit my neighbor came to see him the day after we got him(8 weeks old) and she picked him up and he started screaming at the top of his lungs!!! Don't know what caused that but I started the socialization asap after that little episode. He never did that again.

For what it's worth, there have been no great surprises in Chi's temperment from pretty much the first week we had her. We immediately realized she was scared/nervous/timid around new people/environments - although she's gotten better with tons of socialization she is not at outgoing dog by any means and is happiest when it's just her and her family. And like Duchess does better in crowds than 1 on 1 meetings (how strange is that?). {that means Brum, when you come to take her, you'd do better if you brought an army than come alone :) } So if good behaviors follow the same lines as unwanted behaviors, I'd say little Jazzy is going to be quite the social butterfly in maturity as well :)

That's funny Lexus, it's o.k. there are some words I don't spell correctly either! And temperament is a strange word because the "a" is silent so we tend to forget it! I will admit I am not a very good speller.

******* sounds like a well adjusted puppy to me but never stop working on her till she is mature, now i hate to say this as a male surrounded by 5 girls but you women know what happens when the hormones start to go wild, it always produces a change in mood(sorry ladies but it does).

Tracy if Chi loves a crowd then she will be fine with me,remember we have "rent a crowd" in permanent residence here.

I think she also sounds like she is well on her way. I did lots of socialization with mine since day one. They went everywhere with me and still do. They love to be my little socialites. Asher would go out of his way to approach people if I let him to have some people pet him. Harmony is a little more picky about the days that she goes out. She loves to socialize and see people, but would rather be at home. I have taken her out to Petsmart and she has whined the entire time. It was rather embarrassing to have people look at me like I was abusing my dog taking her out of the house. I had people petting her and telling her what a poor dog she was. I always call her my drama-queen. She has her days and moods. I learned to read her days and what I am willing to deal with that day.

oh another thing duch does...she'd rather be the one going up to and saying hello...give someone a nudge of her nose to let them know she likes them haha.
sounds like she will be a naturally outgoing dog...duchess was socialized and outgoing since day one...she is just a little more sensitive at times...some dogs I think are more carefree and dive into a situation...
in agility duchess and most of the other dobes were analyzing every piece of new equiptment before diving in and jumping on the equipment like the border collies...

but once they realize the situation is safe or okay they seem to warm up and become the social butterflies they can be! :)
