At what age do you move a puppy from puppy food to adult food? Why is this done? Please no eye rolling on this one...I am new to the doberman breed.

Generally, all of my puppies are on adult food by 5 months at the very latest. Some breeders start puppies right out on adult food.

It's done because the higher protein content in puppy food is believed to accelerate the growth process, and can contribute to pano and other more serious joint problems. Slower growth over a longer period of time is preferred.
Yup, what she said :)
I switched Chi over at about 5 months.
I actually started Nash out on the adult food when I got him because Da'Kari was on adult food and he would get into her bowl so I said the heck with it and let them both eat the same kind.

Nash still grew like a weed, I would hate to think what it would have been like with him on puppy food LOL.
I am new to the breed also, and it seems like others have said, 5-6 months is a good time from all my reading (and God knows I've done a lot of that!).
I feed Cedric a food for all life stages (puppies & adults) so I never had to switch him over.
Adult food is fine.

You have to be really careful feeding puppy food to Dobermans. It encourages fast growth which can be harmful to some of the large breed puppies.

My Dobe puppies and many other Dobe puppies from long time breeders that I know are fed a high quality adult dog food.
