I have a 3 month old dobie pup and have been working on preventing resource guarding ever since I got her. She is fine if I take her food bowl away while she's eating or take her toys. However, she just got large enough to be able to jump on the couch (which I don't want). I said a firm "No" and went to pick her up and drop her on the ground.
But she won't even let me touch her! She growled, curled her lips and snapped at me. I have never seen a puppy do any of this! This has happened at least 3 times today. Is this resource guarding? Could their be a medical or any other reason for this? I know it's not normal but is this something that's fairly common in this breed?
I try to redirect her attention before she jumps up but it doesn't always work. I want to teach her the couch is off-limits but I am so lost, what do I do?
