well, the obvious things you will need are collar and leash, bowls and a soft brush, puppy treats, a crate, a doggy bed, some various toys, and a whole lot of love for her. oh! and a ton of patience!! thats the most important thing you will need to have.

and some more patience...

I will suggest Natures Variety Prairie or Innova Large Breed Puppy for your puppy to eat. Also be sure to get the pup into a good vet for a wellness check immediately after you bring her home. Now about house breaking, you will need to take the pup out after she wakes up, after meals and, if a boy, ever 20/30 waking minutes, a girl, a little less. If a puppy pees or poops in the house, it is not because they have some secret vendetta against you or to get even for something. A puppy messes in the house because YOU didnt get it outside in time, simple as that. Mess in house equals your fault and no one elses and certainly not a baby puppy. Patience will be tested many times but it does get better. Remember, keep your eyes on the ball...errr...puppy at all times or you will regret it.:) NO SPANKING, use praise and redirection, treats and put on 30 second ignore for biting. That, too, will pass, after your arms are a bloody mess!

Linda you forgot the most important thing. A rosary! You will be tested in every sense of the word and your patience will run thin. Prayers help alot throughout this process. Puppyhood is probably one the hardest things you can ever endure. Much harder than raising a baby in my opinion, atleast with the babies they don't come with teeth right away and you can diaper them. Puppies, oh boy what joy! tons of fun, but you need those prayers to get you through it. lol. Good luck. Such an exciting time bringing home a puppy. It was like the night before Christmas for us a few weeks ago when we picked up ours, and she is just a precious gift that keeps on giving. lol.

Prepare to be tired, always. You'll be waking up in the middle of the night, sometimes multiple times, and its going to suck A LOT.

Constant supervision!

First off, CONGRATS on the new girl! very exciting.... I brought home a new pup back in the first week of August. One of the first things I noticed, was that he would put anything and everything he could into his mouth! I knew this could turn into a huge, and possibly life threatening issue, so I came to DT to discuss ways to correct the behavior. Here, I learned that the best way to fix this behavior is through constant supervision and training. When you cannot give 100% of your attention to the pup, she should be in her kennel. I know this may sound obvious, but as I learned, it only takes seconds for them to scarf down a rock!

You need lots of patience and many books :)

Here is one of the great online books

Put everything up and away. The next week put everything up higher. They put everything into their mouths and they are quick.

Heavens yes! or anything else for that matter! My oldest gal has had 2 obstruction surgeries, so be very watchful of whatever they get into. We thought we were keeping an eye on her and she still managed to ingest a sock, which caused the first surgery, so be very careful not to leave anything laying around they can possibly eat, and if you give them stuffed toys keep a close eye on them to make sure they do not rip them open and eat the stuffing or squeakers out of them. Also beware of small objects on them like button eyes or noses. It might be a good idea not to leave towels and washclothes hanging where they can pull them down and chew on them as well.
puppy caming home

One more thing that I would like to know is.
I call the vet and he told me not to take the puppy out
And not to have alot of people at home for the few first day
I just shan't to know if this is better to do or not.
Yes, that is excellent advice. You see, a puppy gets immunity from its mothers milk and when that immunity wears off is not precise. Until the immunity wears off, the vaccinations wont take. So there could be a period of time when your pup will be unprotected. During that time, if you put your pup onto contaminated ground, let him come in contact with an animal that is sick or harboring a disease, or let someone come into his enviroment, who could be carrying parvo or distemper, for example, on their feet or clothes, your puppy could develop any number of diseases. So be very careful with him till he gets a couple of shots under his belt.
i have to agree also, don't take him out till his last set of shots. Not sure where you live but on the west coast parvo is rampant, especially this time of year with the weather change.
After I entered that last post, it hit me that my vet made the statement that vaccines today are strong enough to override the mothers immunity. I didnt know whether to believe him or not and still dont. Perhaps this would be a good question to ask your vet. I do know it was thought the mothers immunity wore off about two weeks after the last time the puppy nursed, then the vaccination would take. CH4sure, while I understand what you are saying, you really dont have to wait till all shots are done at 4 months. You really do need to get the puppy out to start socializing him before 4 months as there is a window at around 3 months when you need to get him out to experience life and all that goes on around them. OP, try putting in Stages of Puppy Development into the DT search on here or your search engine. It is an excellent article to read and understand what is going on in your pups head.

Linda thanks for the advice but both my vet and breeder suggested I do not bring her out and about until her next set of shots, which is in nine days, Where I live Parvo is rampant so we have to take extra precautions. I rather we be safe than sorry, I read alot of articles on socialization and the various puppy stages, I find I am always reading, lol, I'm just afraid of getting her this far and then having a set back. She has been playing with my other three dogs and shes seen her brother twice, and we take her for car rides or walks just to the mailbox and we are constantly interacting with her, so I think she will be ok, shes not nervous or skittish and has a great temperment but to give credit where credit is due, that all goes to her breeder who did a fabulous time socializing her and loving her. It shows whenever she sees her, our puppy absolutely freaks out with joy, the puppy hugs her and its almost like she doesn't want to let go, she definately remembers her first home thats for sure. I'm counting down now these last nine days because after that, the world is going to open up for her, I'll never leave her home.lol.

+1 on the sleep issue. For 1.5 months I think I averaged around 3 hours a night.

The only thing I wasn't expecting out of our dobe pup was all the whining. Other than that, just normal puppy stuff.
well when im not enjoying every second of my precious little sleep time, I find I spend my days mopping floors and cleaning poop out of the yard. Puppies seem to trape in so much stuff on their paws it always seems like I'm mopping or bleaching. I better lose ten lbs before she turns six months old or I am going to be pissed. lol.
