My boy will finally be stepping paw into the conformation ring at the Brazoria Kennel Club show on November 19th & 20th. He will be handled by Alisa Brotherhood. I am very excited and very nervous!
I hope I have some good news to report back with in a couple of weeks :) I decided I'd rather see what a pro can do with him in the ring before I try since this is all brand new to him and I'm not sure if he'd embarrass me out there or not! Serious side question that I just thought about tonight...have any of you experienced doberfarts in the ring?! Prime would be the one to do it..that silent killer! Ahh!

Good luck. Do you take him to shows just to get him comfortable? I'll be sending good vibes and wishes to you and Prime in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed.

Oh good luck Prime!! I'm sure he will do great. We did the same thing and ended up going with a pro but I'm thinking as time and money permit I might try my skills in the UKC ring :)

Prime's been to two dog shows with me so far and they were huge ones at that(Houston reliant). I've been dragging him to big dog events and out in public with me since he was 5 months old, he grew up in a boarding/dog daycare environment so he's pretty used to big, crazy places where a lot is going on and he isn't reactive to other dogs. I'm just hoping he won't try to sit in the ring or play bow to other dogs. When I took him to a handling class he stood the entire time and didn't care about the other dogs except his red headed sister that was standing next to him ;p Alisa is going to work with him before the show so I'm sure she can whip him into shape.

Good Luck to Prime! Don't worry too much about ring behavior - it's amazing what the pros can get them to do! :)

LOL! I assume Doberman judges have to be descentitized to it ;)
I always comment (like I’m talking to the dog) on the stinky dog farts as the judge comes up, just so that they don’t think it’s me! Probably not a great thing to do, but really, dog farts are embarrassing enough! I don’t think I could handle it if I thought the judge suspected it was me :)

I am so lame.

"Descentitized"? Har har har! You just invented a new term!

But I confess I am torn! Emotionally conflicted! My loyalties are divided! I''m sure jhowell's "Beckham" will be entered. For whom to root? Maybe you can talk to her to make sure y'all are entered in different classes. Then I won't feel like a traitor. That is, until y'all go to "Winners Dog". Then...I don't kno-o-o-o-o-ow!!! Argh! (FWIW, I'm just being silly. :lala:)
