Hi All,

I've been frequenting this site as a guest and decided that it was time to join!
No, I'm not a Dobe owner (yet) but I am trying to get as much info as possible so that I know what I am getting into :)

So..hi :)

What I like about Dobes

Welcome from TX! So what attracts you to the Doberman breed? :)
Thanks everyone! Yes this site has come in handy to do my research. It's nice to see people's actual experiences with their dogs.

As for why I'm thinking a doberman -- the main reason I started looking into the breed was because my fiance really likes them and he assured me that (unlike how media portrays the Doberman breed for the most part) dobermans are NOT big, scary and highly aggressive. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt and started looking into the breed, and have fallen in love! (And obviously I now know that they're not a mean and scary breed ;) ).

From what I've gathered from research (and please let me know if I'm wrong :p) dobermans really like company and like to be part of the family, and they are fairly energetic (which is a plus for us). Both of these aspects is what draws me to them. That coupled with the fact that they've got shorter hair, which after growing up with golden retrievers would be a nice change, is also a plus. But really if I had to pick, it would be fact that they like to be with their owners.

...so are my gatherings about dobermans right? :p
Also -- any other tidbits of character knowledge are welcomed :)

Hello from California, and welcome! Another thing you might like to know is, doberman's love to cuddle :). I dont know which media you saw, but the one i've been seeing on youtube are great! I go there and search for all doberman videos, and its a joy to see the owners with their dobe's. I dont know if i can link the video in a reply, but I wanna just try. Below is a video showing a dobe protecting a baby. So cute!!

Yes you are right!! They thrive on the company of their owners... They are HUGE babies, always wanting attention and pets. Plan on having a paw on you at all times when you get your dobe though lol this includes in the washroom. They must follow you everywhere ;) They are super smart - too smart for me sometimes... Always one step ahead of me.

Really?? The washroom?? That's too funny! And I am glad that my research has been leading me in the right direction as to how their temperament actually is!

Thanks everyone :)
