So Piper's ears are continually close, but never quite there. She is young yet, only 4 months, but everything but the tips had been up since after the first week of posting. Even the tips were happy and stayed up for a few 4 day stretches after that first week... Until she started teething. Now when the posts come off she is great for a day and then the tips start to curl. As per her age she is still teething and will be for a decent while longer.

Should I keep posting or try breathe right strips? The breeder only ever posts.

Below is (hopefully) a picture of her I just took, sorry if it is upside down. I can only seem to get one photo attached at a time so I'll add a second post with another in a minute if I can get it figured out. She was holding them well here, the next photo is her cocking them back to listen while sniffing and it shows a truer extent of the curl. They have been off 27 hrs. She is reposting with breeder in a couple hours, so this thread is more for after this next ear posting. Last time we left them off an extra day and the curl got bigger.


My goal is great looking ears. I'm more than happy to be patient, so want to err on the side of caution.

If she was my pup, I would continue all the way through teething (6-7 mo).

IMO you are experiencing what many folks do. Ears look great and then once the pup starts to teethe, they fall. Also, again JMO, but the ears, at this point should be down only long enough to clean, dry and inspect. Maybe an hour or so. Years ago, a very good ear cropper told me that a day with the ears down equals an extra week in posts. Now, that may be a little extreme, but I believe the basic concept to be valid

Agree, 100% with John- I would definitely keep posting. Continue to post through teething and save yourself potential headache with the ears later.

Me too (agree with John, that is)--and the "little curl" at the tip is often the hardest thing get rid of.

I would not be leaving the ears down during the teething period--not even for 4 hours much less 4 days. And I wouldn't start trying breathe-rite strips until after teething.

Patience is a virtue when it comes to ears...
