how many cups of food are you feeding? Sometimes when you feed to much that can cause runny stools. When I brought my pup home he had runny stools as well and it didn't get better. He was on Acana and I think it was to rich for him at the time so I switched foods to Taste Of The Wild and after switching his stools went to normal.

Could be overfeeding as that is a common cause of loose stools in puppies. Try cutting out one of those meals, as a puppy really doesnt need 4 meals at that age. Dont increase the amounts of the other meals either. Keep a doberman puppy lightweight. Try going to the health section as I wrote somethings that could help you on a Diarrhea thread earlier. Do you have a vet appointment for your new puppy? You should take any new puppy right into your vet for a checkup. Giardia and coccidia parasites are also two things to check for if loose stools persist.

charly,

Try a measuring cup instead of by the handful for determining how much food you are giving the puppy.

Overfeeding is a common cause of diarrhea--particularly in puppies. And what the heck is Purina beta? Purina ProPlan (several different formulas) is what I feed and I'm pretty familar with the Purina lines--but I've never heard of "beta".

I don't know that the evening meal would be the best one to cut out--although I certainly don't feed four times a day at her age. Ideally you want the food given at fairly even intervals so that there isn't a huge gap between meals. I usually feed breakfast, lunch and dinner--about six hours apart and generally have puppies on two meals a day by the time they are 4-5 months--or when ever they stop eating all of the food in all of the meals.

Change of water is sometimes responsible for diarrhea too--but you would normally see that start to clear up in a week on your water.

Good luck with your puppy.

What was she eating before? If there is a food change, runny stools are common.

From looking at the info, I think what you are feeding might be what is called Purina Large Breed Puppy Chow here in the States. Maybe a UK member could chime in, and tell you what they feed? That way, you would know that you could get it over there.

Thanks for the link. I don't usually miss the fact that sometimes people are elsewhere other than the USA--but I sure did with you. No wonder I couldn't figure out what the heck Purina product you were using. Even just going across the border to Canada we find different products available than we can get here in the States.
