Does anyone have any experience with Pontiffhaus Dobermans in East Tennessee? Their web address is HERE. I am looking at one of their dogs through someone else and I'm just trying to find more info about them - good, bad, or ugly. If there is something I might want to know that doesn't conform to forum standards, please IM me or email me. Thanks in advance!

The only thing I know about them is that breeder, Ron Pope, was killed in a car accident maybe a month or so ago, which is probably why someone else is handling the sale.

It looks to me like it is the same people. I beleive Ron Pope was just killed in a car accident. Very recently, I think I read that on USAdobermann...a tragic accident.

I have heard decent things about their dogs working ability. There are some very nice dogs in their pedigrees, and some ok ones. Who are the parents of the litter you are considering?

I know that the C-litter v Kaiserhaus had nice females, with good longevity. Camilla Kaiserhaus was a SchH III I think. Cita was a nice female also from what I understand. Popes Flintstone doesnt have a great pedigree behind him, he got his BH I think though. And Popes Barnabas was used as a Police narc dog.

Are you looking for a working dog?

I'm looking for a pet quality dog that will be good for protection work as well. Being a former retired racing greyhound owner/adopter, in general I prefer working dog lines over AKC lines. Not that there is anything wrong with AKC lines, but if you look at an AKC greyhound next to an NGA greyhound, you will see an immediate physical difference and will soon notice other differences. ;) Yes, I know Dobes are completely different than Greys, but I am partial to certain things.

There is a couple in the office downstairs from my office, and they have two Dobes that they bring to work every day. One is an AKC Champion and the other is from good AKC lines. I've been talking to the couple for a little while and the woman is actually financially involved with an AKC breeder in FL, and owns several show Dobes. One of her Dobes (Ch Phillmar X-Static) got an Award of Merit at the 07 Westminster. Both of her dogs are very well mannered and she says they have showed protective tendencies without training.

I ran into this guy earlier this week and we were talking Dobes and his involvement with the Popes, and said he has a 7 month old male right now that he has only done basic obedience with. He is bringing him by in an hour or so with all papers, so I'll have a little more info.

EDIT: I got to see the 7 month old and he is a gorgeous red boy. He is lovable and affectionate, and has a strong prey drive. He is very alert and keys in on small moving objects, as well as people. His ears come close to touching in the center, but I can get past that. He has a few basic obedience commands down, but needs plenty of work to give him a job. He should end up being pretty big, since his sire is around the 85 pound range. The guy brought his 6 year old male with him too, and was forthcoming that while he is a good dog (from different bloodlines), he is not the best at protection work. However, he demonstrated great obedience skills. The red Rocko is from the Pope's kennel, and is one of Nero's grandchildren. He hasn't been socialized with any children, so that is questionable. Phillmar dogs are socialized to kids while they are still in the whelping box.

I'm trying to decide whether we are moving in the next few months right now, so getting a pup while thinking of putting the house up for sale is not a good idea. However, after some recent happenings in my area, a good size Dobe might be beneficial for ease of my wife's mind.

Thanks for the fast responses. :)
