We won’t blindly go with this poll’s results but I do want some feedback on names we have on our list.

The dog’s register name will be Allthemore One in the Chamber.

Our list of call names so far is…
1. Trigger
Reminds me of Roy Rogers’ horse and old westerns. I love it, but it could be difficult to call loudly.

2. Clip
Very cute. Almost too cute…

3. Chamber
Obviously this is part of his registered name. Phonetically it is the one I like the most, but out of context it would be a weird name.

4. Bullet
Phonetically this is the one I like the least, but the one we were originally going to go with.

My two cents (which is worth less than that)…..they all feel very trite to me (although I do like Trigger for the Roy Rogers reference) but I’ve never been a fan of call names that imply a “bad ass“ dog.

One in the Chamber? Here is what pops into my mind
  • Uno - my favorite
  • Shooter (a la Waylon’s kid)
  • Roscoe (old timey slang for a subnosed revolver)
  • Peachy (a Georgia dog…and if you’ve ever seen The Man Who Would Be King, Peachy was played by Michael Caine)
  • Remy (Remington)
  • Bolt (bolt action rifle)
Or you could riff off the sire’s name
Or you could wait to see what he looks like and his personality

Eventually, you'll open your mouth and the right name will come out. I had one dog I wanted either a German or Celtic name for, and had a list of about a dozen, with one lone Hungarian name on it If you guessed that Ilka wound up with the Hungarian name, you would be correct. .

As a fellow Doberman person and gun enthusiast I like the vein of the names but not the names per se when imagining using them as call names. My opinion doesn't matter at all but I will throw out a few that I think might be good alternatives for more choices.

Caliber, striker (striker fired), velocity (bit of a mouthful but not played out like ruger, and other gun names) Barrett (company that makes the 50 BMG, and Mauser (german world war style pistol and also fitting as this is a german breed)

I bet once you get your puppy you will get the perfect name. Sorry if format is off mobile hates me.

I like Ruger--good choice, Blitz! Remy is good too.

Some other good firearm names--Beretta, Blaser, Panther.

I remember reading years ago that the best names for dogs (when it comes to them hearing, differentiating, and understanding it) are ones that are two syllables, ending in an "A" or "ah", "O" or "E" sound. Definitely avoid a name that sounds like a command or a commonly used word.

Just me thinking out loud here :) But I like the spin off the Registered name or the sire's name , Example = Mr. Business's Sire's name was Philmar Superman , call name was Steel , And my little girls registered name is Jager's I can't Stand the Rain ( Tina Turner theme ) I did everything in my power to name her Sunny , But that didn't fly , I was out voted :) And she was the Pink Color girl and second choice was - Pink , Staying with the Music theme , besides that name fit her from the singer's song - Let's get this party started ! and what a wild party it has been , lol

Like Rosemary said , it will come to yeah

Good luck

I name my dogs based on whatever movies we think of when the name question comes up.

Our first puppy was Deckard (the Blade Runner) - we lost him early to a birth defect. Our second was Ripley, so named because she was tenacious and we hoped she was unkillable, just like Ellen Ripley. Current dog is Ellen Aim, nickname is Ellie (Sattler) or El (Eleven).

For me I like it when dogs call name is also in the registered name. Any animal really that's registered, I like that name to be in there or related. For example, a friend has a horse where part of the name is Irish Preacher. They called him Rev, short for Reverend because they didn't want to be yelling Preacher lol. So I would go with Chamber for that reason, honestly dogs have had stranger names! I like Bullet as well, but we know someone who named their dog Bullet, but they changed the spelling to Bulit (I think that's right) to make it unique. Other than that, if you don't like two of the name on the list pick ones you do like for the list, and once you have him home it'll come. I had names just come as soon as I saw my one puppy, or I had the name picked out long beforehand and was just waiting to attach it to the dog.

I've always been a fan of waiting to see what name fit the Dog/Cat as far as their personality. I've never named an animal otherwise.

Y’all are so helpful. We’ve basically ditched our first set of names, agreeing with some of you that they’re overused and cliche.

Now we are considering Colt (firearm related and a good-sounding name), Neo (firearm related because of the matrix, means “new” and we hop this pup will be a new start after the loss of our last dog… worried it sounds like “no”), and Caliber (the breeder mentioned this one and we really like it).

And to be clearer, we will meet our puppy first before choosing a final name. We just want some to choose from so he doesn’t end up called Pup (or something dumber) his whole life. Context: I have a dog named Asker. Why? Because I was calling her Pup and this little girl asked me what her name was. I said “ask her” as a joke. The little girl said “oh, Asker is a beautiful name.” It stuck.

I love thinking of names, I have an enormous list of names for future animals. That said, NONE of my animals, once arrived, ended up with a name off that list, haha. Further, even once named, I call them 2 million other things.
Love your theme though!! I might go with a gun manufacturer name, like Ruger, Deringer, etc.

Our 2 y/o red boy's call name is Neo! Whenever I tell younger folk his name, I always clarify with, "not after the Matrix character, just means new Dobe for us, following our previous two" Our favorite female name decided was Nova, with same meaning as Neo... Also, Neo's 10-puppy, all-red litter theme was red, so in his registered name is Mariah Neon Red Von Koepsel (Neon gas excited with high energy emits a red color, which is pretty much his personality!)

Do you find that it gets confused with “no”? My thought is that a dog is smart enough to know if I’m saying his name or asking him to stop something. But idk.

No issue, just emphasize the "knee" before the "o" sound. He does hear "No" quite a bit during the day, but also lots of "Good Boy's" as well. 😁
