from preferring red and tans to preferring black and tans. I have several good options for a well bred black and tan dobie, but none for my heart's desire the red and tan dobie. Please use this thread to post most awesome pics of your black and tan dobes to change my mind. I am ready for a dobe! Even though I have a black and rust dog I prefer red as well. Reds just have a uniqueness about them that can't be matched. But there are some good photos in the "black dobermans" photo gallery that you could look at.

Lol, well clearly I'm no help since mine is a red, BUT...I was on a waiting list for a black and tan female. Unfortunately they lost the entire litter and the next day, I was offered Gunner. When it comes down to it, it's just a color Now, I LOVE my little red guy even though I was originally set on black.

I always had black dobes...found 2 great breeders, in the last 35 years - the litters were all black, color was not a choice.

I would gladly take blk or red, next time...just what ever is available...is fine with me.

Lol i wasnt into reds before i joined this forum. Im slowly but surely growing fond of them just by seeing day to day pictures that everyone posts of their dogs.

I wasn't into reds until I joined the forum either. However... black/rust is where my heart will always be :] I'd say, especially for your first dobe, go for the perfect personality over the perfect color.

That's why, eventually, you get one of each.

Red has always been my favourite Doberman colour, but we ended up with two blacks prior to getting Ripley. Winston was adopted from rescue, so there was no colour choice there and there were no reds in the litter Keira was from so there was no choice there either. I like both colours, but red will continue to forever be my favourite.

To me, the black/rust is the more traditional color, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I personally would not have any color but black/rust.

Then don't worry about color at all Focus on getting a healthy pup from a reputable breeder that has the right personality for your family. A doberman is a doberman after all

When we decided to get a doberman, my husband was dead set on the traditional black/tan color, because after all, thats what a doberman was. He didnt like the reds, he said it just didnt look like a doberman, so we got our girl, Mysti:

Then when we talked about a second one, same thing, he wanted another black, so we got Nexus:

Sadly, we lost Mysti sooner than we expected, and it left Nexus sad, and alone and after several months we knew that Nexus needed a friend to play with, and hubby surprised me by saying, lets get a red, and along came Bella, and she is the cutest, goofiest, most adorable girl ever!

I love both my girls, dont get me wrong, they are both special to me, and I think they are both the greatest puppies!, but there is definitely something about the reds, they have this goofy, funny little quality about them that is unique. A black is sleek, shiny, elegant, whereas a red is sassy, silly and just plain fun!
