i'm not a fan of pigs ears, rawhides, etc. They usually break off into little pieces or can splinter, leading to obstructions. I use elk/deer antlers...all natural, last much longer, dont break or splinter, easy to digest, and most importantly DONT SMELL. you should supervise your pup with any chews, it only takes one second for something to go horribly wrong.

I used to give my chihuahua pig ears all the time and Nova got them when she was a baby pup. They are super fatty which some believe can lead to pancreatitis which is why I no longer give them. Also, Nova always seemed to get one stuck on the roof of her mouth somehow. They just aren't worth the risk IMO.

I use large raw knuckle bones and supervise. They are great for the teeth and really satisfy the chewing needs. Sort of a pain in the winter as I have to puppy gate a small area off so they don't get packed all over the house.

Antlers here, the rawhide I've looked at are from China and Brazil. The antlers are from the U.S. or Canada. They don't stink or gunk up the carpet. The antlers are only allowed outside. I'm afraid if he drops one it will break the tile.

I distribute for a raw food company which added antlers to their product list a few months ago. One of my customers had a dog break (shatter, actually) a tooth within a couple of days of being given an antler piece. I think delicate gnawers would probably do fine with them, but I would not recommend antlers for power chewers.

I stick to bully sticks and dried beef trachea for edible amusements, and occasionally give whole raw steer femurs outside. No rawhide, no pig ears, no processed bones.

I give Delta the "Better than Ears" brand fake pig-ear treats. They aren't "bad" per se, but they aren't good for them either - they are just treats. Delta finishes them in about 30secs so I don't consider them a very effective chewy. I like to use them as "finale" rewards after asking for a string of tricks. :D

I'd stick to bully sticks and raw bones, personally. My dogs have VERY rarely had a pig's ear, and only supervised. The ones I've given have only been locally sourced from a farm I know. I wouldn't feed the mass market pig ears. Another chew my dogs enjoy that I am comfortable with is the Himalayan Dog chew. The only chew I give without heavy supervision is a raw bone. Even then, I personally wouldn't leave a dog alone with it.

we give ours unbleached cows ears as they seem to be very digestable. I read packages very carefully to make sure nothing is ever made or imported from China. Been there three times and I would never ever feed any of my dogs anything from that region. The standards are way too different and its too risky. I would rather pay more for American made and give them less treats then get more from China. The cows ears they love, and I also found a chicken breast jerkey in Costco ( a big bag for like $15.00) that they love as well, all made in the USA.
