I'm going to be making pajamas for Dexter, as he is already shivering in our 68F Northern VT home. But first, I have a question for those of you that put your Dobies in PJ's...

Do you crate your dogs and do you feel safe having them in their PJ's in their crates while you are gone or sleeping?

If not, any other suggestions for keeping Dexter warm? He already has a nice fleece topped 2" crate pad and several blankets (one king size fleece and two throw size fleece.) And, the lucky guy's crate is on the radiant heated floor.

I'm sure he's fine, but I feel bad when I come home for lunch and he's shivering, like today.

Thanks!

I don't know about Gunner since we live in Georgia and the cold isn't an issue here yet, but I want pics of the PJs!! How adorable!!! I will be getting him a blanket for our walks, but I hadn't thought about pjs..he has his huge warm bed that will hopefully keep him toasty :)

I personally don't leave mine unattended with PJs (or collars or anything else wearable for that matter). When Ripley was neutered I crated him for a few nights with his pajamas on, as he got really cold, but I was right there (sleeping yes, but I wake up easily for any dog noises). I don't imagine they'd actually get caught on anything in a crate, but who knows. My dobes' crates are loaded with blankets. Ripley is gross and bunches them all in a corner to suck on when we're not home to tell him not to, and so ends up laying on the hard plastic... but the blankets are there. I can't help it if he doesn't want to use them for their intended purpose of keeping him warm and cozy.

Maybe a crate cover would help?

I doubt he would catch anything inside his crate, but I definitely don't leave a collar on him in there, so that's why I'm apprehensive about the PJ's.

And yes...I'll post pics when they're done :)

Maybe get a blanket to cover the crate and put a heater by it for a little bit before bed so its nice and warm when he goes to bed? The cover should hold the heat in the crate after you turn the heater off and keep it warm for a while, and if he has blankets to snuggle nto he should stay warm enough through the night. If its in a room where you can shut the door to keep the room warmer you could try that as well.

I am comfortable leaving Shanoa in jammies or fleece coats, but she is not crated when I'm gone. Simon is still adjusting to wearing clothes, so I don't leave them on him. I don't leave collars on either of them when we're gone. I feel like the clothes would likely rip if they got caught on something but collars are stronger and won't.

So, I got Dex a new blanket (that he was very happy to drag through the house) and a quilt to cover the crate. Hopefully this will help for while we're gone and the PJ's will be for when we're home. Once he gets used to them, maybe we can leave him in them in the crate, but we'll see.

Here's his new den, minus the new blanket that was dragged into the living room.

You say that now, but just wait!

Jones shivers here in Florida

Jones has a Chilly Dogs coat, and a Ruffwear coat! I put the ruffwear one on him at night, because I keep the windows open at night (for now) and 60's for him = feet and cold nose in my back as close as possible

Even in south Florida it does get cold maybe 30-40 degrees at night that's maybe for a week ...now that's cold for a girl that grew up in Michigan.........:)

I loved the pictures!!

My friend never puts a collar on her doberman in the crate ...her male almost choked himself to death. When she found him he was almost gone............she's a nurse so she was giving CPR and he responded.....so no collars in crates......

I have a heated dog bed I bought last year for our two Siamese cats. They get really sick if they get cold.

The brand name is "PetSafe"

I have left this on for about the entire year, REALLY and it's still working! I just checked because it's also sitting ontop of my desk with one Siamese in it right now. They sleep in it all day "respectfully" so I don't worry about it overheating them and they only weigh 4.5 lbs. & the other 19 lbs.

Anyways I bought a medium which is FAR TO SMALL for a Doberman but, I know they have other sizes.

There is NOT a temperture control (it's a very mild, cozy, heat) or a on/off switch timer...

However you could by one of those timers we use for our Christmass trees and attach
the plug to it :0)

When I was reading all of the reviews for myself, I noticed a lady who had given a review wrote, "It worked great for about one hour until the puppy chewed threw the cord."

This was the only thing I would be concerned about if you have a chewer as a pup...
Other then this I would recomend these to all of the members on this site as Santa will also be bringing Kira Hime one for her first Christmas this year.

I have a photo of Kira as a puppy laying in it under "Red Dobermans" in the gallery...
She loved it!!!

Oh, by the way .... I love your PJ's they are perfect!!! I am actually making Kira a few coats myself. A rain coat and a Winter jacket because we have our cold days in Florida too!
