What do you folks know about this cancer screening test?
I let them run it on Maiya. She's had three close relatives die of cancer. The vet also said if she came back positive, she would aspirate her prescapular lymph nodes as they did seem different. By themselves, though, she would not. I believe she said the submandibular were a little noticeable too, but not as much. Back end ones were fine.
There always seems to be folks for or against whatever "X" you happen to be talking about. Obviously my vet recommended doing this. Are there vets out there who wouldn't? And we didn't jump ahead and start discussing what we would do besides aspirating those couple of lymph nodes should she come back positive. But what comes after that? Are you immediately into chemo etc. At the end of the day are outcomes any better because it's caught earlier?
And I haven't had a chance to watch this yet, but wanted to share as well. This was provided to me from someone I don't know who seems very enthusiastic about it.
"The test finds lymphoma and hermangio at all stages 1,2 and 3 typically in the past it was found too late in late stages.:
0-50 is low risk. 50-80 is moderate risk. 80+ is high risk. Maiya's number was 76.1. I haven't spoke with the vet yet, but I imagine she'll want to move forward with aspirating some lymph nodes.
Had scheduled Elle to dock dive on Friday, but I think the water will be too cold for her. I hadn't planned on jumping Maiya anymore, but I've decided to give her Elle's jumps if she's up for it. She loves dock diving. Here's a fun pic since I don't post as many of her here.
Girlie Girl Q’ed in all of her splashes. No senior title though. Last season when she was doing air retrieve would have been the time to go for the next distance level. She was jumping great then. For her last jump I said, “Last jump” meaning for the day. But then it popped in my head it probably was her last jump. Cue fighting back tears. sigh
Elle Q’ed in lure coursing too.
Maiya is at least stage IV substage B. It’s in her liver and spleen. I didn’t do chest x-rays as advised better to put money towards treatment. Although not sure I’m doing chemo. Some people say it is absolutely worth it and others say never again. With Ivan and DCM I didn’t get the average. With my renal cat I kept saying we can treat that. She was a hot mess by the time I euthanized her. Regret that. Still waiting on flow cytometry.
Still don't know if it's B or T cell, but at this point it doesn't really matter. I'm not going to pursue chemo. Just not enough of a guarantee on how she'll feel and how long it will last coupled with weekly vet visits. I have started her on Prednisone and Pepcid. Her appetite is back. She had raw egg and Greek yogurt with her breakfast, which she had been turning her nose up at. She's also back to hunting the yard for rabbit gifted snacks.
I'm sorry you're having to make these choices. It's what I did too with Schara, who was 11.5 when diagnosed with lymphoma. So hard, but I'd do the same again.
