I will be picking up my rescue doberman in PA on Sunday. He is originally from Kentucy, and is now in foster in WV. He is a white doberman that was abused. He was attacked by a snake and used as an ashtray to butt out cigars. He was also starved. He ended up in a shelter, and was rescued by a wonderful family.

I have done alot of research and have owned a dobe in the past. This will be my first white doberman. I am hoping to learn alot from the board as I know white dobes are prone to more health problems. Adonis has checked out fine so far, so we are hoping it stays that way.

Here he is :)

Welcome to Doberman Talk. Its good to see people with big hearts getting a rescue. It does amaze me how people could treat these animals as disposable property and not a living, breathing creatures with their own character. Good Luck with your new addition.

Welcome (again!)!! He looks like a real dear! What a handsome boy, and I'm sure he will be very happy to be in his forever home with you!

I would love if we could do pass out punishments equivalent to the crime.... I think everyone on this forum would be lighting up cigars....

Adonis is lucky to have found you.

When I hear stories of mistreatment like Adonis has endured, it's no wonder some dogs turn on their owners - it was probably long overdue!

BTW - you may want to check w/ vet which sunscreen is safe to use on that pink nose.

I know white dobes aren't a good thing, but he's stunning.
Grats and welcome!

My dope Tucker is a rescue too and everything we saw about him points to abuse too. I think "pay it forward" is a good way to describe dobes in this situation...or any rescue. It's so very worth it

Tamena....I think you meant dobe........but, maybe not................Rudi can be pretty dopey!

My Mr. Rudi is a rescue and my first Dobie. I am the happiest lady in Ohio! What a wonderful addition to my life he has been! I will do it again once I get up enough guts to have 2 dobes and 4 cats!

Welcome to the forum to you and Adonis. my two are both rescues and I feel they have given me so much more than I have given them. just keep in mind that it will take a while for them to adjust.

We got Apollo when he was 5 and have had him almost a year, and he is still coming out of his shell. near as we can tell, he wasn't abused, just ignored. he is getting mroe velcro each day.

Molly our one and a half year old was kicked around pretty good. the bastards that had her before mangled her ear and fractured her skull, but she is full of love - tho has terrible nightmares and will lash out at Pollo or us in her sleep. we have had her since July.

There are lots of rescues here on the forum, so any issues or things you think are weird or just off, throw them out and someone will be able to help steer you in the right direction.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

I already live with a rescue of the micro kind. He is a puppymill chihuahua that was sentenced to a life of breeding, but luckily the mill was shut down. Hes been with us for 3 years and is an awesome little guy. My MIL also has a rescue dobe from the HS. He was cropped with scissors and left outside. Hes the most loving dog I have ever met and started my love for dobermans.

We also have 4 other dogs including 2 more chihuahuas, a husky/shep mix and a great dane :)
